Vertical Garden Tower for Rosewood hotel

French architect Jean Nouvel has designed a lattice-covered tower to house guest rooms and residences at the Rosewood São Paulo resort, which features interiors by French designer Philippe Starck.

Pritzker Architecture Prize-winner Nouvel's 25-storey concrete Mata Atlantica Tower houses the majority of accommodation at the Rosewood São Paulo, which is located close to the major Avenida Paulista thoroughfare and many of the Brazilian city's important cultural institutions.

The tower steps inward gradually as it rises, creating spaces for large roof gardens as well as balconies for the 114 guest rooms and 100 private Rosewood Suites available for purchase inside.

Jean Nouvel's Mata Atlantica Tower is wrapped in wooden lattices that will eventually be covered in local plants. These gardens and the vertical timber screens that cover the building were planted as part of a biodiversity programme, which aims to repopulate the indigenous flora and fauna from the Mata Atlantica rainforest.

"Covered in wood and wrapped in generous nature, the vertical garden tower features 10,000 trees and rises 100 metres into the sky," said a statement from Rosewood.

This one of several recent Nouvel projects that heavily incorporate plants, including the Aquarela complex in Ecuador.

MAST to create stilt-house hotel in abandoned Portuguese salina

MAST to create stilt-house hotel in abandoned Portuguese salina

Danish maritime architecture studio MAST has revealed plans to build a hotel formed of houses on stilts in a Portuguese lagoon formerly used for salt production.

Located on the Sado Estuary near Setúbal, the overgrown salina will be transformed into an eco-conscious tourist destination that takes cues from the traditional fisherman's huts and jetties common to lagoons and rivers in the south of Portugal.

Construction is expected to begin imminently, with the first houses scheduled to open to guests in late 2025.

Using Ai Image Enhancer In Hospitality

In today's digital age, visuals play a crucial role in attracting customers to hospitality businesses. High-quality images of hotels, restaurants, and amenities can make a significant impact on potential guests' decisions. This is where AI image enhancer technology comes into the picture.

AI image enhancer tools use advanced algorithms to analyze and enhance images, resulting in clearer, sharper, and more visually appealing photos. In the hospitality industry, utilizing AI image enhancers can bring several benefits:

1. Improved Visual Appeal:

  • AI image enhancers can refine low-quality images, making them more attractive and professional. Clear and visually appealing images can create a positive impression on guests looking to book accommodations or visit a restaurant.

2. Better Online Presence:

  • High-quality images can set a hospitality business apart from competitors in an overcrowded online marketplace. AI-enhanced images can help hotels and restaurants stand out on booking platforms, social media, and official websites.

3. Enhanced Marketing Efforts:

  • Appealing visuals are an essential component of marketing campaigns. AI image enhancers can help create captivating images for promotions, advertisements, and social media posts, increasing engagement and interest from potential customers.

4. Cost-Effective Solution:

  • Investing in professional photography for every aspect of a hospitality business can be expensive. AI image enhancers offer a cost-effective way to enhance existing images without the need for extensive photoshoots.

5. Consistent Brand Image:

  • Maintaining a consistent visual identity is crucial for brand recognition. AI image enhancers can ensure that all images released by a hospitality business meet the same quality standards, reinforcing brand cohesiveness.

In conclusion, leveraging AI image enhancer technology in the hospitality industry can elevate the visual representation of businesses, attract more customers, and improve overall brand perception. By utilizing these tools effectively, hospitality businesses can stay ahead in a competitive market landscape and leave a lasting impression on guests.

Marriott International Becomes First Hospitality Company to Introduce Neuroinclusive Practices at Its Largest Customer Events

Leveraging work from Google Xi’s The Neu Project, Marriott strives to create a more inclusive experience for meeting attendees

Marriott International, Inc., a hotel industry leader for more than 95 years, today announced its commitment to incorporate neuroinclusive practices at Marriott-hosted customer events of 250 people or more globally. This commitment is a result of joining forces with The Neu Project, an initiative from Google’s Experience Institute (Xi) that aims to share resources designed to better accommodate and create a more inclusive experience during meetings and events for neurodivergent attendees. These practices are initially being previewed at Marriott’s Corporate Partnership Customer Conference, THE EXCHANGE, currently taking place November 28 through December 1, 2023 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Springs, CA.

Approximately 15-20 percent of the world’s population has neuro differences, including ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, autism, dyslexia, epilepsy, and Tourette Syndrome.* In 2022, the Google Experience Institute launched The Neu Project in order to demystify and educate event professionals on the design of more neuroinclusive experiences through a helpful guide and checklist.

The following neuroinclusive practices will be incorporated at Marriott-hosted customer meetings and events of 250 people or more:

Quiet Room: A dedicated room will be available during Marriott customer events for recovery from sensory overwhelm, restoration and regulation. Designed to foster the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of attendees, the room will serve as a calming retreat where guests can break from the event to manage fatigue, overload and/or sensory needs.

Tools and Resources: At registration, event attendees will have the opportunity to request various tools to better accommodate their needs, including sensory & fidget toys, noise canceling ear plugs, sleep masks, sunglasses, printed agendas and venue maps, and details about loud music, flashing lights or surprise moments taking place during the event.

Closed Captioning for Main Stage Presentations: Real-time subtitles and captions will be available on-screen during main stage event and conference presentations.

“Grounded in our commitments to innovation and inclusion, Marriott is dedicated to making meetings and events more accessible for everyone,” said Drew Pinto, Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue & Technology Officer, Marriott International. “The Neu Project is a driving force in this space, and we look forward to working jointly with them, along with the neurodivergent community, to deepen our understanding of neurodivergent needs in order to truly welcome all.”

Over the past two years, Marriott has collaborated closely with The Neu Project to learn directly from the neurodivergent community. The company has already begun implementing various neuroinclusive practices at its recent customer events, including a quiet room and tools and resources at both THE EXCHANGE: Association Masters in Phoenix, AZ and THE EXCHANGE: Europe in Madrid, Spain. Last month, Marriott and The Neu Project also implemented a quiet room for attendees at IMEX America, an annual industry event in Las Vegas, NV where members of the global business events community come together.

Looking ahead to 2024, Marriott will further its neuroinclusion efforts by conducting active listening sessions with the community through conversations with The Neu Project and people who are neurodivergent, which will help shape future content.

“The Neu Project was born out of a desire to rethink event experiences post-pandemic, and has since grown into a major initiative that is driving change at events across industries,“ said Megan Henshall, Global Events Strategy at Google. “Marriott understands that creating environments where differing perspectives and experiences can come together boosts creativity, and we have witnessed their passion for increasing inclusivity at meetings and events. We’re excited to continue working with them as we strive to create more inclusive experiences with and for the neurodivergent community.”

Marriott’s implementation of neuroinclusive practices for meetings at select hotels builds on its fundamental core values of advancing diversity, equity and inclusion. Through third-party partners like Disability:IN, the leading nonprofit resource for business disability inclusion worldwide, Marriott offers a variety of resources to improve accessibility at meetings, events and conferences.

ITC Royal Bengal & ITC Sonar present the ‘Art of Celebration’ paying an odeto the cultural heritage of Bengal.

ITC Royal Bengal & ITC Sonar present the ‘Art of Celebration’ paying an ode
to the cultural heritage of Bengal.

At ITC Sonar, we pay tribute to the age-old sholapith craft of West Bengal.
The unassuming herbaceous Shola plant grows wild in the marshy waterbound
Sundarbans. Beneath its hard outer bark, it has an inner core that is soft
and milky-white. This spongy, malleable and lustrous Shola is intricately
crafted into delicate figures, artifacts, and ornaments. Traditionally used
to adorn and embellish, the Shola headgear of a bridal couple is a mandatory
element in a Bengali marriage. Our Shola Christmas Tree at ITC Sonar is a
unique amalgamation of traditional hand-crafted shola in a contemporary
design. Snowflake alone adorns the floor as a golden snowflake forms the
star atop the tree. Adding to the spirit of the region, traditionally woven
‘gamchas’ decorate the festive gift boxes beside the tree.

While at ITC Royal Bengal, we embrace the 19th-century Dutch-Bengal style
of Patachitra art. Hand-painted by local artist Soumyadeep Roy, this tree
is a visualization of the traditional Nativity Scene, depicting the birth
of Jesus. Through vibrant colors and a dynamic style - this tree
illustrates people from across the world coming together to join in the
celebrations of this festive season.

‘At ITC Hotels, our WelcomArt initiative celebrates indigenous art,
providing a platform to local artists. As per tradition, our handcrafted
Christmas Trees imbibe modernity while rejoicing in the cultural heritage
of the region. This is in keeping with our ethos of Responsible Luxury,
part of our initiative to help sustain the intrinsic flavour of the region'
said Tejinder Singh, Area Manager East, ITC Hotels & Cluster General
Manager, ITC Royal Bengal & ITC Sonar.

Acclaimed Landscape Firm Reveals Its Designs on Hyatt Regency Koh Samui

Wannaporn Pui Phornprapha of P Landscape hails “special” experience at new resort

KOH SAMUI, Thailand (November 16, 2021) — One of Thailand’s most revered landscape architects, Wannaporn Pui Phornprapha, has declared her work at the new Hyatt Regency Koh Samui as one of her most “special” achievements.

Wannaporn, the managing director of Bangkok-based firm P Landscape (PLA), has steered numerous award-winning projects during her illustrious career. Under her lead, the landscape and design studio boasts a client portfolio that includes well-known developments including 137 Pillars House in Chiang Mai and the Museum of Contemporary Art Bangkok.

Therefore, her ringing endorsement of the Hyatt Regency Koh Samui speaks volumes about her satisfaction at another job well done.

“Everything from the beginning was special,” she said. “The passion everyone poured into this project. I can’t say enough about how proud we are about Hyatt Regency Koh Samui.”

A collaboration between three of Thailand’s biggest hotel design names — Office of Bangkok Architecture, August Design and P Landscape — the 140-room property occupies eight acres of private coastline in the far northeast corner of the paradise island. The beauty of Koh Samui is legendary. And the resort’s appeal leverages the visual appeal of the coastal landscape, a forest of protected trees and the proximity of the ocean.

Indeed, Wannaporn says that the dazzling scenery at the property was the first thing that struck her when she was enlisted by resort owner Ithichai Poolvaraluck to be a member of his design dream team.

“Our vision for Hyatt Regency Koh Samui started to come together after the initial site visit by a PLA team led by our design director Sutisa Patanapanich,” she said. “It really is a joint effort between us, the architecture team, the interior team and Khun Ithichai to convey this beautiful scenery into a unique experience that blends seamlessly with the guests’ lifestyle.”

Deploying a design-forward philosophy, the property, which is located in North Chaweng — and is less than ten minutes from the island’s international airport— bills itself as a “vacation gallery” due to its array of visual highlights.

These include a showpiece lobby, the longest lobby arrival point in Koh Samui, where numerous skylights allow for natural illumination by the sun and the moon. Other standout features span plush accommodations that showcase terrific ocean views to one of the largest pool zones on the island, where a series of pools cascade down from the main pool on the upper deck of the resort.

The latter feature is a particular source of pride for Wannaporn who singles it out as one of her favourite aspects of the resort.

“We are especially excited about the pool area,” she said. “Each terrace accommodates diverse types of guests and lifestyles. The top layer serves families with a kid's pool adjacent to the main pool. The bottom layer near the beach is more colourful and reflects the party vibe at Sesun (the resort’s beach bar).

“The swirling of dark and light colour tiles mimics the gleaming effects of the waves reflecting off sunlight and the gradual change in tones resonates with the ever-changing colour of the ocean throughout the day.”

Sympathy with the existing nature of Koh Samui is a cornerstone of the landscape design at Hyatt Regency Koh Samui. Indeed, the resort incorporates around 80 native Yang Na trees (Dipterocarpus alatus) that were once used by sailors and fishermen as navigational landmarks. Wannaporn believes that such harmony with its surroundings bodes well for the resort.

“It is crucial to acknowledge that landscape and nature are not static, they are seasonal, temporal and dynamic,” she said. “Preservation of local trees gives this project a unique aesthetic that endures. At PLA we believe there  is nothing more sustainable than protecting the beauty that is meant to be there.”

THE ARCHITECTURE OF ITC ROYAL BENGAL - AN ODE TO BENGAL’ S ARISTOCRATIC & REGAL HOMES

ITC Hotels ethos of ‘Responsible Luxury’ embodies the philosophy – ‘Lets put India first’. This philosophy is taken further through its various endeavors. An off shoot of this thought is building hotels whose
architecture is inspired by local history and culture.

ITC Royal Bengal carries forth the culture and pays tribute to the towering achievements of the great minds of Bengal and its people who encouraged and appreciated the efflorescence of arts, science, and the finest experiences that life can offer.

ITC Royal Bengal is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum-certified building under LEED USGBC New Construction Programme. LEED is an international symbol of sustainability excellence in green building that signifies a building has fewer carbon emissions, conserves
resources and reduces operating costs while prioritizing sustainable practices and creating a healthier environment. ITC Royal Bengal's LEED Platinum Certification is one of the many reflections of ITC Hotels’ decade-long Responsible Luxury philosophy which integrates world-class sustainable practices with contemporary design elements to deliver the best of Luxury in the greenest possible manner. Environment-friendly materials and products have been used in the building. More than 20% of the materials of the project’s total material have recycled content, in addition to more
than23% of the construction materials being locally sourced. Materials that have a lower environmental impact have been thoughtfully employed.
These include materials with rapidly renewable content and low Volatile Organic Compound content. The landscaping of the Hotel has been designed with plant species that are native and help in promoting biodiversity with reduced irrigation water demand requiring low maintenance.

The personality of ITC Royal Bengal is of an enlightened soul, literary, liberal, and appreciative of the finer things in life, well-traveled, well-read, and curious about the world.

ITC Royal Bengal conjures up this awe-inspiring world within a monumental, magnificent edifice. Envisioned and created with – the luxury of space, the burnished gleam of décor inspired by the finest buildings of this land, and the hushed elegance of homes that have celebrated the finest nuances of
culture, art, music and a zest for truly sublime experiences.

pic22798.jpg

The architecture of ITC Royal Bengal is a fine blend of European and
indigenous architecture found in erstwhile stately homes (Bonedi Bari),
regal palaces of the Nawab era and churches of Bengal with contemporary
comfortable design. Reflecting the rich heritage of Kolkata’s past, the
façade of one of the largest hotels of the City of Joy, is inspired by
several heritage buildings of Bengal along with the aristocratic homes of
Kolkata and the districts.

Stories that dead pillars tell, spring to life when one goes beyond the
brick and mortar of ITC Royal Bengal’s outer frame. The classic Greco-Roman
façade with its Horse Sloping entrance, is reminiscent of the stately homes
and Hazarduari Palace of Murshidabad. The classical Greek architecture with
ancient Doric columns that date back to 8th century BC, was introduced in
Bengal via Bengal Renaissance Art and Architecture.

Cherishing the passion of the Nawabs of Bengal, ITC Royal Bengal is truly
an architecture of regal elegance. The stairway in the central part of the
hotel taking you to the signature restaurants mirrors a culture of
exceptional enterprise, extravagance and an eye for detail resonating with
the grandeur and the fine lifestyles of Bengal’s erstwhile nobility. It
also reminds us of the rich elite intellectuals of Bengal. The black
railing of the staircase has a 17th-century art style known as Cul de
Lampe.

The exterior railings have a string of Balusters dating back to the
Renaissance period. The Antis below the staircase is found at the Treasury
Building of Kolkata and even in the interiors of different city churches
reminding us that Kolkata was once the capital of erstwhile British Empire.

Even the door knobs of various rooms and the hotel’s Business Lounge is
reminiscent of the Art Nouveau style, introduced by Abanindranath Tagore in
his 19th century painting Abhisarika. Abanindranath was the nephew of Nobel
laureate Rabindranath Tagore and a famous painter and illustrator of the
Bengal Renaissance period. There are several inspiring pieces of 18th
century furniture placed at different corners of the hotel. Take for
example the Chest of Drawers at the Blockfront that are made like the ones
seen in several stately homes of the region. The chair legs of different
rooms are decorated as per Biedermeier, a Central European Decorative Art,
that flourished between 1820-40, found in the Marble Palace of Kolkata.

The various motifs used on the glass partitions, floors and doors are
Trefoil motifs seen in churches of Bengal or the Rib Vault decorations
traced to Bonedi Bari. Interestingly, the Kalka design on the floor lobby
marble counter was used extensively in the Benarasi and Baluchari sarees
worn by the women of regal homes of Bengal.

And once you step onto the welcoming green carpets in various apartment
bedrooms, you will surely be mesmerised at the alpona motifs that were
drawn in aristocratic Bengal homes.

Prints, kantha works and artefacts symbolising the Tree of Life (an age old
concept shared across cultures) is found across the Hotel. Though it grows
old it bears its seeds in its very essence. Over time it has come represent
prosperity, positivity and progress. ITC Royal Bengal & ITC Sonar together
celebrate this eternal symbol. While ITC Royal Bengal celebrates ‘One of a
Kind’ finest experiences, ITC Sonar, a luxury business resort is themed on
a Bagaanbari (garden homes of erstwhile nobility). Branching into timeless
traditions, they both pay tribute to the essence of Bengal.

With its passion for perfection and its pursuit of beauty and grace, ITC
Royal Bengal represents the state and the unique fervour of its people for
celebrating and nurturing the finest across the myriad facets of life.

New Opening | A First Look Inside Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s New Restaurant

Priyanka Chopra Jonas is getting into the restaurant game.

The star signed on to be a creative collaborator in David Rabin (The Lambs Club, Skylark, Café Clover) and entrepreneur Maneesh Goyal’s new restaurant, Sona. Opening on Thursday, Sona will serve modern Indian food in a stylish space in Gramercy. “Sona is the very embodiment of timeless India and the flavours I grew up with,” Chopra Jonas wrote on her Instagram announcing the project.

“I would oftentimes get asked, where’s the Indochine of Indian food in New York, where do you go to have really great Indian food with a cool vibe?” recalls Goyal, who moved to New York City in 1999. “I kept saying, that’s a great question, but there’s no answer to that. Ultimately, I said, well, if there’s not an answer, maybe I should create the answer.”

Goyal’s parents emigrated from Punjab and eventually opened one of Dallas’ first Indian restaurants in 1975, a few months after Goyal was born. Called India House, the restaurant was open through the mid-1980s and the experience stuck with him. “It started to become more apparent to me that the country of my ancestral heritage if I didn’t try to build a bridge to it, what’s going to be my connection?” says Goyal. “There’s a continuity, there’s a legacy that I would love to be a part of.”

Goyal and Rabin started discussing the project back in 2015, and they soon brought on Chef Hari Nayak—a Daniel Boulud protégé at the helm of Dubai’s Bombay Bungalow and Masti, Bangkok’s Jhol, India’s Alchemy Bangalore, and the chef behind the ubiquitous Café Spice meals in grocery stores—for his first executive chef role at a U.S. restaurant. Interior designer and stylist Melissa Bowers, the former design director for the Miami Beach Faena District’s artistic fantasyland, came on in 2018.

Bowers and Chopra Jonas worked closely on the look and feel of the restaurant. “There’s nobody that personifies global Indian more than Priyanka, and she has broken down boundaries in a way that no one from Bollywood has today,” says Goyal, who met Chopra Jonas through a mutual friend. “Priyanka didn’t want [the design] to be on-the-nose Indian, but she also knew how to make it uniquely Indian in certain ways, and Melissa was interpreting and hearing all of it.”

The Indian decor references were ultimately inspired by what Bowers terms, “Indo Deco,” the Art Deco period in India, of which Mumbai is a primary example—the city has the largest collection of Art Deco buildings after South Beach.
