Trainee Marine Biologist Modules at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru
/Knowledge is Power: A Marine Biology Journey Starts With Trainee Marine Biologist Modules at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, Immersing Youngsters in Ground Breaking Conservation and Research
Mumbai, December 2022: The fight for a healthier ocean is real and not to be taken lightly. Continuing more than 15 years of dedication to its UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve home, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru has launched a new series of Trainee Marine Biologist modules to offer young adults a deep dive into pioneering marine research in one of the worldβs most abundant oceanic territories.
Designed for 15 to 19-year-olds, the six one-day, one-to-one modules are designed as a serious foundation for scientifically minded teens, those considering a career in marine biology, or anyone with a genuine desire to deeply engage with the natural world.
Each module combines practical activities with comprehensive take-home texts for a deep dive into what it takes to be a Coral Biologist, Dolphin Biologist, Turtle Biologist, Aquarist, Plankton Biologist, or Manta Biologist. Each privately taught module stands alone and is bookable as a single-day experience.
Trainees work alongside the Resortβs expert Marine Savers marine biologists, on-site veterinarian and experts from The Manta Trust, gaining a unique insight into the Resortβs conservation projects. Activities might include using artificial intelligence to monitor coral reef restoration, cultivating artemia and rotifers in the Fish Lab, tracking and identifying local cetaceans, rehabilitating injured turtles, and contributing to the conservation of the worldβs largest known population of manta rays.
βWe know from experience that actively engaging youngsters with marine environments is key to inspiring long-term conservation efforts,β comments Simon Dixon, Manager of Landaa Giraavaruβs Marine Discovery Centre. βOur trainee modules offer an in-depth experience of life in our field and are a great foundation for anyone with a passion for environmental action. Itβs the kind of training I would have loved in my own youth.β
Explore one or more of the following one-day modules:
Trainee Coral Biologist
A unique insight into the incredible underwater world of coral reefs β the most diverse of all marine ecosystems β and how to help ensure their survival. Alongside the resident Coral Biologist, trainees will take part in every aspect of the coral restoration project, from preparation and transplanting to photography and uploading.
Trainee Dolphin Biologist
An opportunity to be part of the conservation story of the Maldivesβ much-loved marine mammals: dolphins and whales. Working alongside the Dolphin Biologists, trainees will find out all about these magnificent creatures, go on a cruise to track their movements around the islands, and take and process photos to identify individuals.
Trainee Turtle Biologist
Sea turtles have been found throughout the worldβs oceans since around the time of the dinosaurs β with the exception of the polar seas β but now six of their seven species are at risk of extinction. Alongside the resident Turtle Biologist, trainees will learn about sea turtle anatomy and biology, the threats they face in the wild and what can be done to help conserve them.
Trainee Aquarist
This module takes a closer look at some of the smaller organisms that inhabit the underwater world. From plankton to clownfish, rotifers to jellyfish, each play a part in ensuring healthy ecosystems that sustain life. A fascinating introduction to the work in the Fish Lab, this module highlights the dangers and threats facing each species and explores how we can help ourselves by helping the oceans.
Trainee Plankton Biologist
A chance to discover the role these incredible organisms play in our lives, from providing the oxygen we breathe to helping us track climate events and understand the migration of large sea animals. Trainees will be part of the first long-term, continuous plankton survey in the Maldives β and, to the best of the programβs knowledge, in any global UNESCO Biosphere Reserve β and help contribute to a model of plankton diversity and biomass that will hopefully expand into a national database.
Trainee Manta Biologist An insight into the secret lives of the gentle giants of the Maldives: manta rays. Trainees will spend time with these majestic animals and learn how the Manta Ray Biologists work to conserve and protect the local manta ray population. This module enables trainees to become a part of the teamβs research journey, from photo identification to helping monitor size, behaviour and even pregnancy.

Embracing Maximalist Decor with Top Trends
/While minimal dΓ©cor has its own charm, maximalism has gradually found its way back to the interior design industry. It is an expression of the distinct personalities of homeowners through ornate interiors, rich fabrics, eccentric pieces, and much more.
But a wide range of styles and elements do not mean that your place has to look cluttered or busy. With some subtle styles and trends, you can embrace the age of maximalist interior design and make a statement.
Top Maximalist Design Trends to Follow
Letβs read in detail our favorite interior design styles that you can follow to give your house a perfect maximalist decor.
Use of Vibrant Colour
Hold back the conservative colour tones and go bold with a more diverse colour palette to embrace maximalism. Remember, pops of colours here and there may not give you the maximalist decor. So, go all out and stir things up with vibrant hues across the entire space.
Statement Marble Stone for a Statement Design
Marble stone is seeing a huge resurgence in popularity as it brings a luxurious consistency throughout the interior space. The timeless natural marble can dignify the aesthetics of any room and give it a visual appeal of a larger, classic space. The use of marble in marble tables and countertops, marble skirting, and other natural stone elements can give your home an opulent look and feel.
Pattern Play
Patterns bring energy to interior spaces and the options can be limitless if youβre looking in the right direction. From carpets and rugs to cushions and upholstered furniture, patterns add a striking personality to your interiors. And since the idea is to go over the top, you can always experiment with different patterns to create a more dynamic design with a dazzling effect.
Art for the Senses
Invest in art to create an outstanding maximalist interior design. Art plays a huge role in setting the tone of a space and helps you represent your personality in the best way possible. For example, a luxe marble frame for the living room wall or state-of-the-art sculptures can become the pieces of attraction in your maximal space. You can also create a gallery wall for different artworks and frames to amp up your home.
Creative Lighting
Lighting with complex and creative design plays excellently well with the maximalist decor. The more unique materials and adventurous design, the more stylish your space would turn out. Big overhead lighting, luxurious chandeliers, statement lamps, and fixtures β you can choose from different kinds of lighting for different areas. Just make sure to go big.
Mixing of Styles and Layers
Layered motifs and mixed styles do a great job of showing off your maximal interior design styles. Simple backdrops layered with contrasting patterns bring a unique character to the house and engage the guests. You can also layer modern dΓ©cor pieces with the existing decor of a room; all you need to focus on is bringing in a few elements that immediately capture attention.
Accessories and Decorative Pieces
Maximalist dΓ©cor is all about sparking joy and creating an interest in the space. So, if youβre a hoarder of books, trinkets, charms, and even quirky mugs, put them all on display. Show off your collectibles that represent your taste and passions. If you have a huge number of accessories or decorative pieces, you can create small groups and display them separately.
You can also go for wooden shelves or a fireplace feature for display. Just make sure that these additional elements do not affect the functionality of the space.
Wall Art and Wallpapers
Bold and bright wallpapers are the true essence of a maximal space. Unique wallpaper would not just add maximalism to your interior spaces but would also do so effortlessly.
And if youβre a fan of wall art or wall work, you can bring many patterns and styles together to create a striking show. Forget about matching the frames and size and whatnot; just create an amalgam of wall art styles that speak directly to you.

Indian School of Hospitality partners with Karma Lakelands to run Experiential Farms at the Karma Lakelands Golf Resort
/Gurgaon, India,December 2022: Karma Lakelands and Γcole Ducasse ISH Gurugram announce partnership for an experiential farm at the Karma Lakelands Golf Resort in Gurgaon. The students of Indian School of Hospitality (ISH) will be initiated into organic farming, beekeeping and other eco-friendly initiatives of sustainability and conscious living β a vision shared by the founders of Γcole Ducasse, ISH and Karma Lakelands.
Conscious living / Eco Initiatives have always been at the heart and helm of most endeavours at Karma Lakelands since the resort was developed. From being targeted as a zero-waste property to soil building, planting trees, rewilding, practicing bee farming and bio composting of plant & animal waste, life at Karma is an incredible example for meaningful and sustainable existence. At Karma, nature friendly initiatives and conservation practices that support and promote sustainable living are a way of life. As a resort, it strives to minimize our carbon footprint and execute the initiatives and actions to reduce the use of energy and water, while avoiding the use of plastic.
The idea for the farm came when Γcole Ducasse-ISH sought additional locations to fulfil demands for herbs and organic produce in their kitchens. The farmland shall feature seasonal ingredients and regional plants that account for most of the ingredients used on campus. It will encourage farm-to-table practices, sustainable sourcing, and relying on locally-grown crops. Additionally, students shall participate in practical learning sessions in the open classroom and the rustic kitchen. They will also be guided by an expert on organic and sustainable farming at Karma Lakelands.
Talking about the initiative, Mr Dilip Puri, the Founder and CEO of ISH, says, βIndian School of Hospitality has always adapted its teaching philosophies to meet the needs of the ever-changing culinary and hospitality industry. As interest in learning about the origin of food increases, we have responded by offering students opportunities to harvest agriculture responsibly. It will allow us to incorporate sustainable approaches into the culinary coursework, like the Bachelorβs programme that features classes on food policy, ecology of food and farm-to-table concepts. This way, students will be encouraged to develop mindsets towards sustainability and eco-friendly farming.β
Sharing his thoughts on the partnership, Mr Ashwani Khurana, Founder & CEO of Karma Lakelands, says, βWe at Karma Lakelands are committed to protecting the sanctity of mother earth through our various Environmental care - Conscious living initiatives. Collaborating with ISH is yet another step to motivate youth, the future of our planet, towards soil building and experiencing growing healthy food. We aim to promote the concept of living mindfully by minimising waste generation & its innovative management.β

Mumbai, November 23, 2022 β People around the world are feeling overwhelmingly more optimistic about travelling in 2023 compared to 2022 and, despite some current instability felt globally, nearly 72% report that travelling will always be worth it. The mood is shifting from one of hopeful uncertainty to bold adaptability. If 2022 was about the triumphant return of travel, 2023 will be about creatively reimagining it amidst the chaos. Nothing will be off limits and everything is on the menu as everyone seeks to find the right balance in a world of contradictions.
To understand how travel will be reimagined in 2023, Booking.com commissioned extensive research with more than 24,000 travellers across 32 countries and territories including India, combining it with its insights as a leading digital travel platform to reveal seven emerging travel predictions.
At a time of general upheaval, where war, increased societal polarisation, rising inflation and urgent concerns about climate change are all continuing to radically change the world, people are finding themselves in a multi-directional tug-of-war, working to reconcile what is important to them with the demands of everyday life. The 2023 travel predictions reflect this sentiment, revealing that the needs of travellers are moving in a lot of different directions to adapt to changing times.
Preppers in Paradise: Camouflaged cabins, campfire cuisine and compasses; going off-grid will never be more sought after than in 2023. 64% of Indian travellers want their travelling experiences to have a more back-to-basics feel and are constantly looking for βoff-gridβ style vacations to escape from reality, and switch off and experience life with only the bare necessities. 73% Indian travellers are also keen to use travel in 2023 as an opportunity to learn survival skills. Expect to see more eco-friendly, earthly stays springing up to accommodate burnt-out city dwellers searching for simplicity, as well as accommodations offering guidance for Indian travellers on how to be more self-sufficient. βOff-gridβ in 2023 wonβt necessarily mean roughing it though. There is a common perception that this means giving up luxuries (67% of Indian travellers believe that), however there is a strong desire to combine the two with 65% only considering travelling βoff-gridβ if it can be at a more indulgent stay.
Virtual Voyagers: With 70% of Indian travellers reporting that they will be turning to virtual reality next year to inspire their vacation choices, travel will enter the ever-evolving 3D virtual space of the Metaverse in 2023. With 61% of Indians keen to embark on a multi-day VR travel experience, the Metaverse will be more than βtry before you buyβ; it will educate people, opening the door for infinite adventure. Travelers will become bolder in their real-life trip choices, after being able to visit them in the Metaverse first via their online avatar. While the Metaverse will offer a new way to experience travel in the year ahead, it still wonβt stop people from booking a ticket to their next destination.
Delight in the Discomfort Zone: Whether itβs bottled-up energy, a new lease on life, the world is ready to dive into other cultures and new experiences head first. 71% Indian travellers want to experience complete culture shock in 2023 β be it travelling somewhere with completely different cultural experiences and languages 63% or exploring lesser-known cities with hidden gems that arenβt already on the radar 27%. Forget the usual favourites, in 2023 Indian travellers will be seeking unique vacations that shock, surprise and delight. 96% of Indian travellers are looking forward to experiencing βout of comfort zoneβ travel that pushes them to the limits, there will be an influx of niche experiences encouraging people to push their travel escapades to the extreme. Unsurprisingly, this βculture shookβ Indian traveller is also partial to throwing caution to the wind, with 46% wanting to buy a one way ticket in 2023 and follow their instinct wherever it takes them.
Glamorising the Good olβ Days: Amid the desire for escapism, people intend to carve out travel experiences that harken back to simpler times, with nostalgic getaways 95% that provide the thrill of reliving the glory days top of the wishlist in 2023. Thereβs a desire β even for millennials and Gen-Zs who never lived it β to disappear into the romanticism of a pre-digital era, with 28% of Indian travellers chasing experiences that evoke (faux) emotive memories of days gone past, such as visiting landmarks or attractions featured in iconic retro films or opting for a bus as a primary mode of transport to live the group spirit of school trips.
Travellers are no longer forfeiting play in favour of rest and relaxation, with 76% Indians increasingly seeking the adrenaline rush of theme parks , and drawing on the imagination with activities such as escape rooms, scavenger hunts and building fortresses with giant building blocks. Millennial travellers will be first to book emerging era-themed accommodation that transport them back to a time they hold close to their hearts, and will likely be doing so with family by their side 54% with βfamily reunionβ multi-generational trips top of the travel agenda in 2023.
Peace and Pleasure Pilgrimages: Travel is set to take βmind, body and soulβ wellness to the next level in 2023 β a fully immersive, no-holds-barred approach to attaining peace and pleasure including less conventional ways to feel bliss. Seeking to recenter the mind, meditation and mindfulness getaways are ever popular with 70% Indian travelers while 63% aim to find peace at a silent retreat and 59% are keen to go on a health hiatus that focuses on mental health, transformative health or that helps with life milestones such as menopause or pregnancy.
For those seeking enhanced spiritual experiences to stir the soul, alternative substances such as cannabis or plant-based psychedelics like ayahuasca or mushrooms will become a more mainstream offering, with 64% keen to try this kind of experimental wellness experience as part of their 2023 travels.
From Daily Grind to Great Company Escape: A step change from the βwork from anywhereβ policy that are now almost as commonplace as annual leave, employees are increasingly keen to preserve vacation time for complete escapism. 75% Indians want their trips to be strictly work free in 2023, and while 64% are not interested in working while away, they would consider clocking in for a company retreat or trip. As such, travelling for business will be back in 2023.
2023 will see a rise in destination business retreats where the focus will be on strengthening relationships and corporate recreation rather than work. In fact, 68% of the Indian workforce is looking forward to their employer planning a βreal lifeβ work trip to bring people together and 69% would like to see their employer use the money saved from the shift to remote/hybrid working models spent on corporate travel or retreats. In response, Businesses stand to see benefits, too β 76% of Indians believe exploring new places will inspire them to be more productive at work.
Saving to Splurge: Indian travellers in 2023 will continue to prioritise travel but will be more mindful over how to make the most of their travel budget and what takes precedence. 69% of Indian travellers will invest in a vacation as it remains a top priority for them, but being budget conscious is key, with nearly 75% Indians continuing to spotlight travel while seeking more bang for their buck.
2023 will see financially-savvy itinerary curation at its finest, with people planning travel budgets more tightly by taking advantage of deals, hacks and smartly-timed travel and prioritising value for money with discounts and loyalty programs. 69% Indians will look to save money by considering off-season destinations or longer routes on the journey, while 72% will be planning travel more in advance in the hope to secure a better deal. 71% believe the best use of their budget is to opt for one or two longer vacations instead of several short breaks.
Within this context, Indian travellers are also surprisingly prepared to dial up their spend β and even splurge β on the components of their trip that mean the most to them. 70% admit that they plan to be more indulgent in their spending habits while on vacation to make up for the lack of travel during the last couple of years, while 67% plan to spend lavishly to ensure they maximise their trip and every experience is worth it.β
Santosh Kumar, Country Manager for India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Indonesia at Booking.com comments, βThe years of pandemic gave us a chance to reminisce and acknowledge that travel should not be taken for granted. Our Travel predictions 2023 research demonstrates a desire for travel to be a way to seek unapologetic moments of happiness and escapism to counteract the heavy realities of our news feeds. At Booking.com our aim will continue to be to make it easier for everyone to seek their unique travel bliss in a more personalised and connected way in the year ahead and beyond.β
