JW Marriott and Flamingo Estate seamlessly entwine luxury hospitality and elevated lifestyle experiences to create a journey exploring scent and sound

JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu - July, 2024 – Scent and sound. Two of the most powerful senses are at the core of the new global brand partnership by JW Marriott, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of over 30 extraordinary hotel brands, and Flamingo Estate, the celebrated, California hillside-based lifestyle company dedicated to radical pleasures from the garden. Grounded in a shared ethos of fostering holistic well-being through a deep connection with nature, this dynamic collaboration will traverse several sensorial touchpoints and bridge the many paths to mindfulness. JW Marriott and Flamingo Estate will invite guests to embark on a multifaceted exploration of the senses with an elegant, garden-infused signature scent and a nature-inspired global sound program.

“Together, JW Marriott and Flamingo Estate are reimagining luxury hospitality by cultivating a fusion of elegance and sensorial experiences that deeply resonate with travelers seeking to elevate their path of well-being,” said Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader, JW Marriott. “JW Marriott and Flamingo Estate have strong commonality between their guiding principles which makes this collaboration a natural, well-balanced, and symbiotic fit. JW Marriott is dedicated to curating an atmosphere that allows our guests to be present in the mind, body, and spirit.”

Serenity Through Scent

Inspired by the JW Garden, a space to connect with nature at JW Marriott properties around the world where herbs and produce grow in harmony as part of the guest culinary experience, Flamingo Estate, together with JW Marriott, has carefully crafted an exclusive, co-branded scent: Expansion. The moment they are welcomed in, guests at JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu will be met with an herbaceous and uplifting scent that beckons presence and expansion. The verdant aroma provides a direct conduit to the natural world with notes of lush greenery, damp earth, and rich flowers, adorned with a base of warm, creamy woods. Other complementary ingredients include white lotus flower and rosemary. The scent is energized by the Holy Basil plant, known as the “Queen of Herbs”, which is revered for its adaptogenic qualities and has a unique ability to promote balance depending on the individual’s needs. This elixir has traditionally been used in Ayurvedic medicine as a tonic for the mind, body, and spirit. The Expansion scent will also be encapsulated in a signature candle that is hand poured in Los Angeles.

Harmonizing Wellness with Sound

JW Marriott and Flamingo Estate have developed four exclusive playlists, each meticulously crafted to correspond with the distinct energy of the different times of the day, respectively titled: Aurora, Sun, Dusk, and Moon. These signature playlists have been designed to foster a profound connection to Mother Nature and encourage mindfulness. The playlists will be incorporated into the global sound strategy which will launch in public spaces at JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu, serving as a soundtrack to welcome guests upon arrival in the lobby and seamlessly integrate into the guest’s stay. JW Marriott and Flamingo Estate’s perspective on sound is to ignite feelings of self and revitalize the spirit – morning, afternoon, evening, and night. The Aurora playlist, designed to be played in the morning, creates a peaceful ambiance grounded in meditative jazz and minimal instrumentals; the Sun playlist, created for daytime listening, raises energy levels with uplifting music featuring mid-tempo beats; the Dusk playlist, intended for the evening transition period, sets a dreamy atmosphere with soft and soulful tunes; and the Moon playlist, suitable for nighttime, cultivates the perfect blend of warmth and spirit with melodic compositions to wind down from the day. Curated playlists will also be accessible on Flamingo Estate’s Spotify channel.

“We both believe in real hospitality, and it's at the heart of what we do. The rare art of making someone feel loved and cared for,” said Richard Christiansen, Founder, Flamingo Estate. “This is communicated through all the senses, but especially sound and smell, which is why we are excited to collaborate with JW Marriott.”

Mohit Joshi, Travel and Destination Expert at Skyscanner said, “We all know the thrill of finding a fantastic flight deal, but hotels can be a treasure trove of hidden savings too. Instead of just looking for the cheapest option, consider exploring different types of accommodation like apartments or self-catering stays. At Skyscanner, our mission is to empower every traveller to find the ideal hotel for their needs, all while keeping in mind the budget so that they can get the most out of every adventure. "

Skyscanner’s data experts have crunched the numbers this year to reveal the cheapest destinations for 3*, 4* and 5* hotel stays this summer (July and August months).  Keen for a 4* bargain?  Try Manali or Thiruvananthapuram in India for a 4* nightly average rate of just INR 3,064. More into a luxe-for-less stay? Try Gulmarg for a 5* nightly average rate this August from just INR 4,966.

Compare self-catering (bed and breakfast) vs hotels side by side (and you could save up to 53% on your week-long Chennai trip this summer) ****

To get the very best price on accommodation, travellers should compare both self-catering and hotel options side by side using Skyscanner’s handy accommodation filters.  In fact, 28% of Indian travellers have shared that they would be willing to stay in self-catering accommodation, rather than a hotel, if it would help them save money.  Based on Skyscanner’s most popular destinations, Indian travellers can save big by going for self-catering options, as well as saving on the costs of dining out each night.  For example, swapping your 7-night Chennai hotel stay for a self-catering option this July and August could save you up to 53%- that’s a saving of up to INR 16,989!  Going for a 7-night self-catering stay in Singapore could save you up to 15% too- that's a saving of up to INR 14,035!

There are times when a hotel stay works out cheaper versus self-catering, for example in Bengaluru and Dubai, so it’s always worth taking the time to compare your options.

Next-level hostels from INR 1,288 per night

No longer exclusively for the backpacking GAP year-ers – the new gen of hostels offers aesthetic interiors, high-quality local cuisine, and most importantly, fun. While only 31% of Indian travellers shared their willingness to stay in hostels to save on holiday costs this year, Skyscanner offers some next-level hostel recommendations that can help cut your accommodation expenses and ditch the soleless budget hotel option this summer.

Take a lesson from Millennial travellers shaking up room service

With searches for ‘Can I order food to a hotel?’ increasing by 44% globally year on year*****. Skyscanner delved into the trend and revealed that 1 in 2 25-34-year-olds in India say that they are likely to use a food delivery service while on holiday abroad. However, this drops dramatically to almost 1 in 5 for 65+ year olds.

Extension for Public Feedback on Draft Goa Tourism Management Bill

Deadline for Public View and Suggestions Extended by 15 Days

Panjim, July  - The draft of the Goa Tourism Promotion and Management Bill, 2024, is open for public objections and suggestions. Hon'ble Tourism Minister Shri.Rohan A. Khaunte and MLA announced today that the deadline, initially set for July 6, has been extended by 15 days.

Shri. Khaunte stated that the bill aims to give a new dimension to tourism in the state and to take action against illegal activities. He expressed confidence that the bill would also be beneficial for job creation and boosting the economy.

He emphasized that the bill would strengthen the tourism industry in the state. He mentioned that the bill was introduced after taking into confidence all stakeholders. In the next 10 days, presentations will be made to ministers, legislators and all stakeholders of the industry to provide clarity on the bill.

In the competitive tourism era, it is essential for Goans to sustain their businesses. This bill will be beneficial for that purpose. He mentioned that 27 different committees have been appointed for the development of tourism clusters, and revenue will be allocated accordingly.

He informed that the bill was prepared through a study by the concerned agency over the past year and a half.

Tourism has transformed over the past 40-45 years. In such times, changes in the old laws become necessary. This bill was prepared after consultations with TTAG, stakeholders, police, other departments and experts over 33 meetings. Since the draft of the bill is open for suggestions, everyone’s cooperation is essential. Another 15 days extension has been given for more suggestions and useful inputs from the public.

The claim that a 2% sustainability fees will be levied is baseless; it is a tax of up to 2%, and it will be limited only to the relevant clusters once they are created. Therefore, making a issue about it is unnecessary, Khaunte alleged. He stated that the bill would help prevent revenue leakage in the department.

Shri.Khaunte also appealed that the government is working for the benefit of Goa and Goans, and it would be more appropriate for everyone to work constructively.

New Delhi, July 2024 - With heat waves dominating the news across Asia this year, Agoda has unveiled its Pool Popularity Rank, spotlighting which Asian travelers are most eager to book accommodations with refreshing swimming pools. As temperatures soar, Agoda’s search data shows that Indian holiday-goers are most likely to dive into the water to beat the heat. India ranks #1 out of 10.
When analyzing the travel habits of ten Asian markets, Agoda found that Indians are most likely to use a search filter that only shows accommodations with a swimming pool. India is followed closely by South Korea, with Malaysia, Thailand, and Philippines rounding out the top five. Japan, and Taiwan form the middle of the pack, with Indonesians, Vietnamese, and Singaporeans least likely to care about the presence of a pool facility.

Ingredient Ideology | Monsoon Special: Chaat Pe Charcha!!! By: Dr. Kaviraj Khialani- Celebrity Master Chef.

Chaat is an umbrella term for a wide range of roadside foods that usually feature some kind of fried dough with various ingredients that typically create a spicy, tangy, or salty flavour, though some chaat are sweet. Chaat is also referred to as a family of savoury snacks that originated in India, typically served as an hors d'oeuvre or at roadside tracks from stalls or food carts across South Asia in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. The different kinds of Chaat names from the collection are Aloo and Peas Chaat, Aloo Paneer Chaat, Sprouts Chaat, Raw Mango Chaat, Palak Chaat, Idli Chaat, Boondi Chaat, Cutlet Chaat, Oats Chaat, etc. There are almost more than 500 varieties of Chaat across the country in various states, cities and smaller places as well. In India, “chaat” is a word that describes more than just a set of snacks: It's a way of life, and a category of food that hits practically every element that makes something crave able—sweet, sour, tangy, spicy, and crunchy.

The original chaat is a mixture of potato pieces, crisp fried bread dahi vada or dahi Bhalla, gram or chickpeas and tangy-salty spices, with sour Indian chili and saunth (dried ginger and tamarind sauce), fresh green coriander leaves and yogurt for garnish, but other popular variants included alu tikkis or samosa. There are those who say the word chaat originated from its literal meaning 'to lick'. It was so delicious that people licked their fingers and the bowl made of peepal leaves, called donas, in which it is often served. Others think it originated from the term chatpati (tangy). However, no one truly knows the origin.

Though Chaats are prepared with a mixture of various ingredients yet, they are not so unhealthy to eat. But, there is Chaat like Aloo Tikki chaat and samosa chaat can be unhealthy especially for the people who are trying to lose weight. In short, Samosa Chaat is made when samosa is broken into bite-sized pieces and served with masala, chutney, and spices. Even though it's amazing street food, it can also be made at home. It's the perfect dish to experiment with because there are so many different sauces and spices to try it with.

MICHELIN Guide Dubai 2024 Underpins Emirate’s Status As Culinary Hotspot

National, July 2024: MICHELIN revealed the third edition of its annual MICHELIN Guide Dubai during a prestigious ceremony last night at the recently opened One&Only One Za’abeel. Among the highlights was Row on 45 becoming the fourth restaurant in Dubai to receive two MICHELIN Stars.

This year’s prestigious MICHELIN Guide Dubai includes a total of 106 restaurants, representing a 53.6% jump since the Guide’s inception in 2022 when it listed 69 restaurants. Decided upon by MICHELIN’s famously anonymous inspectors, the increase in restaurants in this year’s edition, also up on the 90 included in 2023, is testament to Dubai’s expanding and increasingly diverse gastronomy scene.

The 2024 edition recognises four two MICHELIN Stars restaurants, and 15 one MICHELIN Star restaurants, four of which are newly awarded. Dubai is now also home to 18 Bib Gourmand restaurants and three with a MICHELIN Green Star. (See full list of restaurants below.)

Indian cuisine continues to carve a niche with its innovative concept-dining restaurants taking 11 places in the Michelin Guide Dubai. Building on the success of previous venues featured and awarded Stars and other recognition, Indian tapas bar Revelry joins the list, with inclusion in the Bib Gourmand category. Trèsind Studio (chef Himanshu Saini) and avatāra (chef Rahul Rana) maintain their presence in the Guide, with two Stars and one Star respectively, while Indya by Vineet (chef Vineet Bhatia) continues to be a Bib Gourmand restaurant. Conceptualised around the different seasons of India, taking the country’s agricultural heritage and culinary traditions into account, Revelry is an offering by Passion F&B, which is also the team behind Trèsind Studio and avatāra, continuing the company’s impressive run in the Michelin Guide Dubai.

Some 35 different types of cuisine are represented across the 106 restaurants, with the selection underpinning Dubai’s burgeoning culinary scene, as well as its commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences across the city.

Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), said: “We proudly celebrate the third edition of the MICHELIN Guide Dubai, reflecting on our journey from its debut in 2022, to celebrating the expansive list of selections this year. We extend our congratulations to all the restaurants recognized, as well as the restaurateurs, chefs and other talent involved in their respective successes. Dubai’s culinary scene continues to be a key pillar of the wider offerings that are making it one of the best cities to visit, live and work in, with diverse gastronomic offerings catering to all tastes and budgets for our visitors and residents.”

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of The MICHELIN Guides, said: “Dubai is now truly recognized as an international gastronomic destination and its impressive development continues year on year. Its appeal isn’t just with international travellers or local gourmets; talented chefs and restaurateurs from around the world are now also attracted by its vibrant dining scene and arrive keen to make their own mark in the city. With so many different styles of restaurant and types of cuisine, there really is something for everyone.”

Dubai is renowned for being a culinary capital and plays host to a diverse selection of more than 13,000 restaurants and eateries across the city, from street food, to hidden gems and fine dining, catering to almost 200 nationalities living in the city. The latest Dubai Gastronomy Industry Report ranks Dubai second in terms of restaurant density across the globe, in addition to being named one of the top 10 cities for food lovers.

The emirate’s development as a globally recognised gastronomy hub is evidenced through an eclectic range of awards, accolades, and initiatives, including being named No.1 global destination for a third successive year at the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2024, and hosting the annual Dubai Food Festival, which celebrated its 11th edition this year.

As one of the oldest and most prestigious food guides globally, the MICHELIN Guide has been rating restaurants anonymously since its inception in the 1900s through a three-star system, as well as Bib Gourmand which recognises reasonably priced quality cuisine. MICHELIN Green Star awards were introduced in 2020 and recognize restaurants at the forefront of the industry when it comes to their sustainable practices.

The growth of the emirate’s gastronomic landscape continues to be on an upwards trajectory and is reflective of the success achieved within the tourism sector – in 2023 alone, Dubai welcomed a record 17.15 million international overnight visitors, a 19.4% year-on-year increase. This year, between January and May, a total of 8.12 million visitors stayed in Dubai, up 10% on the same period in 2023.

Smart Service With A Smile To Maximise Guest Satisfaction In The Hospitality Industry. By: Dr. Kaviraj Khialani- Celebrity Master Chef.

The hospitality industry as we all know is all about offering the very best of our product and service to our valued guests and clients who wish to experience our professional offering by being different and impressive in approach with continued dedication and commitment. It is important to note that first impression is the last impression is not always true in our industry but yes a perception once made or developed in the guests mind can affect the goodwill & reputation of our business in the market.

It is imperative to follow a few principles of quality service by all our departments across all verticals and available options where the guest needs to be at the centre point of attention at all times. Revenue and finance flows are very much dependant on the satisfaction levels of our guests be it walk ins- corporate or combination of them. Humility and Simplicity coupled with service ethics and values, empathy and empowerment among the team members, constant greed to improve ourself, valuing the feedback received by the guests and working on the same in order to improve the overall image of our brands and business in the market on the whole.

What are the factors to keep in mind when we wish to offer Smart & Quality Service with a Smile!!!

  1. BEING YOUR BEST VERSION: it is important to note that that service in hospitality industry starts from here, being the best version of yourself will only happen if you are truly interested in doing what you are doing and it should be delivered with constant quality delivery and consistency to meet up the levels of expectations.

  2. BASIC’S TO BE CLEAR: it has been found that a few team members in various departments are somehow not very well groomed and or prepared to face the real-life situations and to be able to acknowledge the guests’ requests, needs and that can lead to a little disappointment too from guest point of view. We need to ensure that all team members are well inducted into the team and are ablet to meet the levels of SOP which have been set.

  3. COMMUNICATE WITH CLARITY: It is important that one is able to have an open mindset when speaking with guests and especially when it comes to communication being a barrier in some cases with foreigner guests etc. at times there are terms and concept, wordings which may not be known to everyone so keeping the conversation viable and understandable will be important. Training of the staff on a regular basis on guest interactions can be beneficial.

  4. KNOW YOUR PRODUCT: there are times when a guest has interacted with a particular staff in the hotel say for example at the reception desk and in regards to a room availability or so and the reply given is that I will divert you to my colleague and there too he gets a pass on treatment to the next person this can be kind of trouble shooting and can call for unexpected reactions from his side and can cause a commotion and create a scene at the front desk for no reason.

  5. TEAMWORK WORKS.SO LETS DO IT: A team that works together, comes together, stays together achieves together. A number of theories and planning, training and motivation goes into getting a team to come together to achieve common organisational goals.at times there are team members who do not perform due to an introvert personality and prefer to let someone else do it. But it would be advisable to ensure that members of the team are on the same page and are guided.

  6. COMPETE WITH COMPATIBILITY: Today’s guests and travellers are in need of a little beyond just accommodation, food, spa and the health clubs etc. they are also looking for smart and welcoming staff at all levels who can hold a good conversation and be able to guide and support with information and facts as needed especially by foreign guests. we all know that there is utmost competition in our industry and a little error here and there can lead to a loss of revenue and image.

  7. TRY TO BE ONE STEP AHEAD: Being a little impromptu always helps to think a little ahead of time and being able to use our intuition and thought process we can mesmerise the guest service experience to level next.it has been found that people who are able to forecast and visualise affirmations and positive thoughts are able to be on a better graphs when it comes to performance level scales and appraisal formalities as every employer or boss would like to see or know how and what extra has the staff done for me and my brand.

  8. DO NOT GET INTO POLITICAL DRAMA: Where there are people there ought to be some kind of situational goof ups and errors, clashes and or jealousy too be it any field, industry or work area. Human nature is such that it needs appreciation for all the good done or else the tape recorder in the mind starts recalling all of the past and leads to unwanted situations and emotional imbalance. It is better to keep your mind with your work and focus on the outcomes expected by the hotel and the boss. It is important not to get involved in staff issues, avoid being a leader and lead any kind of argument or situation. Being yourself is the wisest and best way to avoid conflicts.

  9. SELF DEVELOPMENT & SELF ESTEEM: This industry having various verticals attached to it from hotels to restaurants, tourism and airlines, retail and corporate etc is always looking for smart candidates with good communication skills and pleasing personalities to be hired and added to the company’s task force in order to add value and get their expertise used in getting business and betterment of the organisation on the whole. Therefore, one needs to be little careful about the self-outlook, grooming, being dressed to impress, being able to gel well with the team.

Cygnett Hotels & Resorts launches a comprehensive leadership program to train hospitality leaders.

New Delhi July 2024: In a major initiative to train current and emerging hospitality industry leaders, Cygnett Hotels & Resorts has recently introduced its Comprehensive Cygnett Leadership Development Program (CLDP).

This initiative marks a significant milestone in the hospitality company’s commitment to nurturing talent, driving innovation and ensuring sustained growth within the organization. At the heart of CLDP lies an intense and comprehensive training module of nine months, divided into three phases.

Today's hotel industry faces a shortage of skilled leaders who can adapt to rapid market changes, enhance guest satisfaction, and manage diverse teams. This gap hampers operational efficiency, management innovation, and maintaining competitive service standards.

“We recognize the importance of nurturing and empowering future leaders at Cygnett Hotels & Resorts. Today’s competitive market requires a pipeline of visionary leaders who can help build and secure an edge over the rest. CLDP provides insight into real-life examples so hospitality leaders understand how the right mindset, attitude, and communication directly impact team performance,” said Mr Sarbendra Sarkar, Founder & Chairman of Cygnett Hotels & Resorts.

The program has been designed holistically to provide a structured framework that includes people skills, leadership skills, digitalization, a strategic approach to key hotel departments, HR management, accounting for non-accountants, finance, marketing, auditing, and cultural transformation. The training program encompasses reference material, daily operational tasks, virtual sessions, assignments, and one-to-one interaction with industry experts. The program aligns with international standards and offers an internationally recognised certification.

“The leadership development program offers an exceptional opportunity for our team members to develop advanced leadership skills, rethink strategies, and adapt to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of progress. This comprehensive program will empower our key leaders to foresee future trends and unlock new avenues for business growth,” said Mr. Sachin Gaur, Associate Director of Learning & Development and Quality Assurance at Cygnett Hotels & Resorts.

CLDP complements the Cygnett Learning Academy, which offers a wide range of training programs, from job-specific sessions to brand immersion and soft skills development, catering to internal and external participants. The Cygnett Learning Academy has played a crucial role in helping the company's team develop and acquire new skills throughout their careers.
