Global Human Resource Development Center Survey 2022 released for Hotel Management Institutes in India. 

Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Ranchi, established by the Department of Tourism, Government of Jharkhand has been awarded as "Promising Hotel Management Institute" award for the year 2022 among all Government IHMs of India in the Top Hotel Management Institutes Survey 2022 by Global Human Resource Development Center (GHRDC).

Also, IHMCT&AN Ranchi has been given the first position in the state of Jharkhand. Being an achiever and setting records for being different takes him back to the age of 11 months when he was selected to be a brand image and ambassador for a healthy baby tonic called “Alvite Drops “the posters of which were put up all across India at various nursing homes! 

Growing up being a foodie ever since childhood he enjoyed watching his food being cooked at home and with a keen observation skill and for the fact the interest towards trying his own hands too kick started from a tender age of 7 where he picked up the basic skill sets needed to work in a kitchen to make simple things like tea, coffee, sandwiches, pizzas etc and over the years that interest and hobby picked up shape towards getting moulded into a professional approach.

Having completed his academic studies within India and overseas his vision, insight and imaginations knew no boundaries, creativity became second nature to him since then. He loved experimenting with unusual combinations with ingredients, cuisines, methods of cooking, mix- n- match etc. working with five-star hotel chains, in-flight catering units, growing up further being a food consultant, research and development specialist for various food brands across the globe challenged him all the way to stand out with his uniqueness and out of the box thinking and performance.

A flair for writing which grew over the years made him visible on a number of media platforms from newspapers, magazines, blogs, websites on food and health, a count which has crossed over 50 plus publications globally! Chef Kaviraj has also been featured on television shows on star plus and the very first food reality show on colors television as well. writing books, conducting live cooking workshops, master-class sessions, training sessions for hotel chefs and other departments too fall under his profile which he has executed brilliantly over the last 22 plus years now.

National, March 2022: With an aim to recognize and reward India’s most talented chefs, the first edition of Culinary Culture's FoodSuperstars presented by Campo Viejo took place at The Leela Palace, New Delhi. The first of its kind annual ranking saw 30 Top Chefs from across India being celebrated as true heroes of the Indian Food & Beverage industry. The Chefs were commemorated with a trophy as a badge of honor while donning special one-of-a-kind bespoke scarves designed by the iconic Indian designer, Raghavendra Rathore.

 

Culinary Culture, the foremost culinary platform in the country, was Co-founded by Vir Sanghvi, India’s most respected food critic and Sameer Sain, co-founder and CEO of the Everstone Group. It was established to transform the perception of India’s culinary culture globally.

At the event in New Delhi, 28 of the 30 chefs were present in attendance and had flown in specially for the evening from cities such as Bengaluru, Goa, Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Udaipur and Dimapur. To receive the Special Legend Chef award, Barkha Cardoz, wife of the late Floyd Cardoz flew in specially from New York and was given a standing ovation.

FoodSuperstars followed a detailed selection process with nominations put forward by Culinary Culture’s seasoned community of FoodHunters consisting of over 40 food connoisseurs from across the country. The final list of nominated chefs was then shared with Culinary Culture’s Secret Jury consisting of India’s topmost culinary experts and biggest foodies. The Jury further culled the list to arrive at the TOP 30 and the process was overseen by Vir Sanghvi.

 

The platform is the only food ranking in India with no form of outside influence or commercial consideration. No restaurant or hotel advertisements were accepted. After a very challenging two years of the pandemic, India’s F&B Industry finally came together to celebrate the perseverance of the industry through this platform.

 

FoodSuperstars presented by Campo Viejo, will become an annual event to honor Indian chefs and will move around Indian cities for each edition.

The Executive Chef of Mumbai’s iconic Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach, Chef Jerson Fernandes, has been recognized by Guinness world record holder and Padma Shree Dr. T.P Lahane for his valuable contribution to the culinary field on 6th March 2022 at Nehru Art’s Centre, Worli.

Passionate about his profession, Chef Jerson is a stalwart in integrating innovative ways of art and the science of cooking. He strongly believes that food is an experience, and what is cherished is more than just a menu or a restaurant, it is creating gastronomical delight in every experience through a blend of intrinsic flavors, local touch, and creative plating. 

Another recognition of Chef Jerson’s outstanding performance, is his being awarded the prestigious Executive Chef of the Year Award at the Hotelier India Awards 2021 in the upscale to the mid-market segment. The award is a testament to his high standard of professionalism, being a catalyst in driving change in the hospitality industry and aspiring young professionals to follow their dreams and always aim higher.

When not in the kitchen, Chef Jerson enjoys capturing moments and different food aspects through photography.

~ India’s leading culinary platform, Culinary Culture, will reveal the first edition of their annual Chef ranking recognising the country’s greatest Chefs on 19th March 2022

 

India, February, 2022: With an aim to recognize and reward India’s most talented chefs, Culinary Culture announces FoodSuperstars, a first of its kind annual ranking of the top 30 Chefs from across India.

Culinary Culture, the foremost culinary platform in the country, was Co-founded by Vir Sanghvi, India’s most respected food critic and Sameer Sain, Co-founder and CEO of the Everstone Group. It was established to transform the perception of India’s culinary culture globally. It is all set to now reward Chefs as the true heroes of the Indian Food & Beverage industry.

 

FoodSuperstars will release its much-awaited list of India’s top 30 chefs ranked in order from one to thirty. Each chef will receive an award and a plaque as a badge of honor and in the event the chef leaves their current restaurant/ hotel they can take the award and plaque with them.

 

FoodSuperstars followed a detailed selection process with nominations put forward by Culinary Culture’s seasoned community of FoodHunters consisting of over 40 food connoisseurs from across the country. Each nomination was submitted along with an explanation of why a particular chef deserves a place on the list. The process included a physical session to debate the nominations, where the FoodHunters were made to defend their choices. The final list of nominated chefs was then shared with Culinary Culture’s Secret Jury consisting of India’s topmost culinary experts and biggest foodies. The Jury further culled the list to arrive at the TOP 30 and the process was overseen by Vir Sanghvi. The final list will only be disclosed on the night of the awards ceremony and is not shared with the FoodHunters.

 

These are the only food rankings in India with no form of outside influence or commercial consideration. No restaurant or hotel advertisements are accepted. Along with the ranking of the Top 30, each edition will also feature special awards that will be bestowed on Chefs for exceptional achievements through the year. These will include awards for Social Activism, Sustainable Cooking Practices and an award to a Food Legend. After a very challenging two years of the pandemic, India’s F&B Industry finally has something to look forward to and celebrate.

Drawing upon more than 232 million verified reviews from real travellers, leading digital travel platform Booking.com announces the recipients of its tenth annual Traveller Review Awards, including the 2022 Most Welcoming Places on Earth. 

 

Booking.com today revealed the top five Most Welcoming Regions in India according to its Traveller Review Awards 2022. Kerala has topped the list once again as the ‘Most Welcoming Region’ in India followed by Goa and PuducherryPalolem, Agonda, Mararikulam, Thekkady and Varkala are the top five ‘Most Welcoming Cities’ in India. The awards also highlight hotels as the most welcoming accommodation type by Indians followed by homestay, resort, guesthouse and apartments.

 

2022’s Most Welcoming Places on Earth

From iconic architectural wonders to pristine natural beauty, the 2022 Most Welcoming Places on Earth span the globe and offer travellers a range of memorable travel experiences. The 2022 Most Welcoming Regions on Earth include Gorenjska (Slovenia) followed by Taitung County (Taiwan) and Tasmania (Australia). Booking.com also revealed the top 3 Most Welcoming Cities on Earth which include Matera (Italy), Bled (Slovenia) and Taitung City (Taiwan). In terms of places to stay, Italy leads the pack with the most accommodations being recognized with a 2022 award (162,272), followed by Spain (93,130) and France (89,186). India (9062) ranked ahead of Colombia (8082), New Zealand (7355), Taiwan (7350), and  Chile (7267).

2022’s Most Welcoming Cities and Regions in India 

Looking at the properties receiving the Traveller Review Awards 2022, Booking.com has also revealed the Most Welcoming Cities and Regions in India for travellers to experience the best in hospitality and friendliness whenever it’s safe again to do so. Three out of five destinations from Kerala are a part of the Most Welcoming Cities in India. From Palolem (Goa) and Agonda (Goa) to Mararikulam (Kerala) and Thekkady (Kerala), these places reveal the love for coastal getaways by Indian travellers. While South India dominated the most welcoming regions list in India, Himachal Pradesh also made it to the top five Most Welcoming Regions in India in 2022.

 Most Welcoming Accommodation Types in India

Another year in a row, hotels take the top spot in the Traveller Review Awards 2022 as the most-awarded property type in India, with 3644 partners being recognized for their efforts. Homestays take the second spot with 1141 properties being honored, followed by resorts, guest houses and apartments. 

 

Warm and welcoming staff make the difference 

When diving into the individual aspects of their stays that the guests valued most at the 9062 properties receiving a Traveller Review Awards 2022 in India, staff (8.8) cleanliness (8.7) and location (8.7) received the highest average marks. This is above other aspects evaluated, such as facilities (8.3) or value for money (8.3), demonstrating the importance of those welcoming, friendly interactions during the stay, as well as health and hygiene in light of the evolving status of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The Fern Residency, Rajkot won the prestigious Hygiene and Clean Hotel Award for the year 2021-22.  The award was given by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation after surveying all the hotels under its jurisdiction.

 

The General Manager of the hotel, Ajay Srivastava received the award from the municipal commissioner and mayor of Rajkot. Congratulating the staff members of the hotel, Senior Vice President-Sales & Marketing, Noshir A Marfatia said, “It is a proud moment for us that a hotel competing with so many other hotels has been recognized for its hygiene standards and cleanliness. This has always been the ethos of The Fern Hotels and becomes even more important in this prevailing pandemic situation”.

 

According to the GM, Ajay Srivastava the award carries a huge significance in the city as very stringent norms are followed by the municipal corporation. Moreover, the municipal officers visit unannounced and there is an element of surprise as well. They not only check the front areas but also the back-end operations, kitchen, inventory etc. After taking note of everything a jury which includes both municipal commissioner and mayor along with other members reviews all the hotels and then decides upon the winner.

NEWS| Jit Bose - elected as a "Fellow of IIHM" and becomes member of the "IIHM International College of Distinguished Fellows"

The IIHM (International Institute of Hotel Management) International College of Distinguished Fellows conferred the Fellow of IIHM to 28 global hospitality leaders for their exemplary contribution to their industry at a glitzy virtual event. Streamed over Zoom and YouTube on January 12, the convocation ceremony had Suborno Bose, CEO, International Institute of Hotel Management & CEO, International Hospitality Council, and Prof David Foskett, MBE, chairman - International Hospitality Council, London, coming together to confer the fellowship. 

The IIHM International College of Distinguished Fellows had elected 56 dedicated professionals to become Fellows of IIHM. All of them have greatly contributed to the international hospitality industry in one way or another. The list of distinguished industry stalwarts includes Ms. Camelia Punjabi ( Group Director – Masala World) , Mr. Vijay Thacker – Managing Director – HTL Howarth), Chef. Lepinoy Sebastien (3 Michelin Star Chef Les Amis Restaurant Singapore) to name a few.

AWARD | Neha Kapoor wins Front Office Manager of the Year Award

Nine months after joining Pullman and Novotel New Delhi Aerocity as an Assistant Front Office Manager, Neha Kapoor was promoted to Front Office Manager. When the dual-property’s Rooms Division Managers (RDM) left, she took charge of the front office
operations for the combined 670 rooms.

Three years down the line, Kapoor has learnt a lot whilst handling two different hotel brands and leveraged this learning to increase overall revenue, ADR, guest satisfaction score and employee satisfaction score.

“While challenging initially, this on-the-job learning made me stronger and helped in my personal growth as well,” she emphasised.

The experience placed her in good stead when the pandemic struck. Despite the downturn faced by the entire industry, she stated that the hotels registered 174% YoY growth in upselling revenue and 5% YoY increase in room profitability in 2021 as compared to the year.

Chef Jerson’s contribution of integrating the contemporary and progressive  with the classic is the epitome of hours of experimentation and purpose.  He has been heralded for his culinary prowess by the Honourable Mayor of Mumbai, Kishori Pednekar  on 27th December 2021. The appreciation and recognition aims not only to honour the high standards of professionalism but serves to create opportunities for aspiring professionals to lead as vision builders, catalysts for change, influencers and rising achievers. He extends his sincere gratitude to the management of Accor and Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach for providing him with an opportunity and platform to showcase his skills and talent.

 

Food is an experience, and what is treasured and cherished is more than a menu, and the restaurant, the ambience and quality produce, but the demonstration and marvel  of the integrity and reflection of the locale to create the spectacular. Chef Jerson’s immediate endeavor is to render  these events as the focal point of signature performances, and unify India’s diverse culinary landscape with the intangible aspects of culture and heritage through his food plating’s at the various restaurants of Novotel Juhu where he believes in serving all his guests a dining experience of a lifetime, rather than just mere great food.

Being honoured and humbled by the Distinguished Award, I have and am  continually  rewarded with  leaders, employers, front-runners, colleagues, mentors, administrators and support staff who assist me in spearheading projects ranging from preserving traditions, to balancing health and sustainable food menus, championing under-represented menus through photography, and chronicling culinary memoirs. 

Reflecting on the memorable journey, the award is monumental in further  exploring my career path, aligning my future actions through a  collaborative transformation in 2022, where tenacity  and originality  will shape the future of gastronomy.
