Exclusive Interview | Neha Kumari, Human Resources Manager, Hyatt Centric MG Road Bangalore
/Editor: Tell us about your journey. How did it all start?
My career started with Hyatt Bangalore as Human Resource Officer, which later rebranded as Hyatt Centric Bangalore. Having worked with several international brands during my 10years career helped me gain enriching experience and I am glad to be back to #WorldOfHyatt.
Editor: What do you think it takes to succeed in this industry?
Being curious, spontaneous, and lively at work are some of the points that I always keep in my mind while working. If you are enjoying what you are doing, along with your hard work and commitment a person will definitely succeed and prosper.
Editor: What are the attributes you look for while selecting or hiring? If someone wants to work with you, what should they do?
While searching for new talent my key focus would always be the values that they uphold. Also, the passion they share for the job role they are applying.
Editor: What advice would you give to a young, aspiring hotelier for their internship?
In the industry being proactive and being curious to learn new things is something that is needed. It’s ok to try and fail as that’s how you will learn and succeed. An internship is the most important part of their journey as it acts as the most important and deciding phase for their career.
Editor: What is the single factor that got you your promotion?
I would say the commitment and passion that I carry to my work. There are no shortcuts in life, you have to give your best.
Editor: What are some of the trends you see impacting the hospitality industry?
Currently, guests are looking for locally inspired experiences. Change in technology has been the most significant impact on the hotel industry with the world moving fast, everything is smart and digital nowadays. Guests prefer a holistic approach with healthy lifestyle and wellness options.
Editor: Tech is now an enabler for great hospitality. Can you share with us some of the techs that go into creating your guest experience?
Hyatt is always about adapting to new changes, and technology is one of them. Now post-pandemic many things have gone digital and contactless from payments to orders. The use of digital keys for check-in, hybrid events, and contactless face recognition for staff are few examples of how technology has enabled us to create safe experiences not only for our guests but also for our colleagues and shareholders.
Editor: What is your favorite question for a candidate interview and why?
The question will be “What’s the most challenging task you handled” as this will give an idea about the candidate’s insight, proactive nature and ability to handle difficult situations.
