MoU Signed Between IHM Ranchi and The Art of Living to Provide Youth Empowerment and Skill Development Programs for Students

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Ranchi, and The Art of Living (TAOL) to provide youth empowerment and skill development programs for students. The primary objective of this MoU is to establish a collaborative partnership between IHM Ranchi and The Art of Living in order to promote health, awareness, and stress management practices among students.

The initiative also aims to train students in aspects related to “Art of Etiquette,” enabling them to receive holistic, multidisciplinary, and value-based education through TAOL’s well-tested and proven student development programs. This collaboration is designed to foster the integrated development of all human faculties—intellectual, aesthetic, social, physical, emotional, and moral.

Hospitality Beyond Borders: BCIHMCT and NATHM Unite for Academic Excellence

The Academic Partnership Summit held on 14th and 15th April 2025 at Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (BCIHMCT), New Delhi, marked a significant milestone in cross-border academic collaboration between India and Nepal in the fields of hospitality and tourism. The summit was organized in collaboration with the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM), Nepal.

The event commenced at 10:00 AM with a warm welcome to the five-member delegation from NATHM, Nepal. The delegation included Mr. Aakash Lama (Instructor, Production Department), Ms. Sabina Raut (Instructor, Accommodation Department), Mr. Umesh Subedi (Chief Officer, Planning Department), Mr. Naresh Dangol (Senior Officer, Planning Department), and Mr. Tanka Kafle (Senior Officer, Administration Department).

The inaugural session began with a Welcome Address by Prof. R.K. Bhandari, Director of BCIHMCT, who extended heartfelt greetings to the guests and underlined the importance of mutual learning and collaboration. This was followed by a brief address from the representative of NATHM, outlining their expectations from the summit and emphasizing the potential of collaborative learning and tourism growth in the region.

The summit successfully fulfilled its objectives by establishing a foundation for long-term academic cooperation and mutual growth. It provided both institutions a platform to learn from each other and explore innovative educational strategies in the hospitality and tourism sectors. The presence of Guest of Honour, Dr. Sudhir Andrews, a stalwart in hospitality education, added immense value to the proceedings. Dr. Gagan Soni, Coordinator, IQAC, presented an overview of BCIHMCT’s best practices and major achievements in the areas of student development, faculty training, and industry interface. Subsequently, Dr. Arvind Kumar Saraswati, Academic & Research Coordinator, gave a detailed presentation on the institute's academic and curriculum framework, highlighting its alignment with global hospitality education standards.

The summit also featured an immersive institute tour, including visits to the culinary labs, front office simulation rooms, and housekeeping labs, providing delegates with insights into the practical training methods adopted at BCIHMCT.

Later, Dr. Prem Ram, Programme Coordinator, delivered a session on the culinary culture of India and shared institutional best practices in gastronomy and food production. Dr. Saraswati then took the lead in explaining the ongoing research initiatives and collaborative projects undertaken by the institute.

The day concluded with a faculty introduction and roundtable discussion, which facilitated a rich exchange of ideas, opening pathways for future research collaborations and joint academic ventures. The second day of the summit was dedicated to exploring local hotels, allowing the delegates to gain deeper insights into Indian hospitality practices.

Milestone Moment as Four Seasons Resorts Maldives Plant 9000th Coral Frame

The blue-hued Maldives are renowned for marking milestone moments. At Four Seasons Resorts Maldives, a very special celebration has taken place this month; one that impacts the future of the islands themselves. In partnership with Reefscapers, the Resorts planted their 9000th coral frame in the ocean, the latest landmark in a series of pioneering marine conservation projects that span more than two decades.

One of the most successful coral restoration projects of its kind in the world, the reef regeneration efforts at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives were born in the wake of the 1997-1998 El Nino bleaching event. Coastal oceanographer Thomas Le Berre of Seamarc Pvt. - now Reefscapers - approached the then new-to-the-Maldives Four Seasons with his dreams of coral propagation. A visionary partnership was born, leading to one of the Indian Ocean’s largest masses of artificial reefs to date covering 3.05 acres (2,351 square metres).

Supported by Four Seasons, Thomas’s research led to the development of a revolutionary coral frame technique.  Now adopted by conservationists worldwide, it involves attaching small coral fragments onto metal frames that are then planted on the seabed to regenerate coral reefs.

Like the coral it supports, the project has grown in myriad ways over the years. The coral propagation success at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru and Kuda Huraa led to Marine Discovery Centres at both Resorts served by a team of 11 full-time marine biologists. Marine conservation projects there include coral spawning research, sea turtle rehabilitation, and a Fish Lab to breed ornamental reef fish in captivity, reducing pressures on the natural reef. Landaa also became the birthplace of The Manta Trust - now a global charity dedicated to the worldwide protection of manta rays.

Reefscapers and Four Seasons continue to evolve reef restoration. Resort guests at Four Seasons two resort islands as well as Four Seasons Private Island at Voavah can transplant their own reef and watch it grow via online photo updates. In 2020, the onsite development of an AI catamaran that uses robotics to improve monitoring efforts led to the publication of the world’s largest coral restoration study to date in peer-reviewed journal Nature Ecology & Evolution, using Artificial Intelligence to assess, analyse and record data.

Climate change poses a huge threat to a country reliant on coral reefs. In 2016, the teams were devastated when 90 percent of the shallow water corals in Baa died in a bleaching event. When a mass bleaching event was predicted in 2024, the onsite Reefscapers teams were able to take preventative action, relocating an incredible 28,000 corals – between 450 and 500 frames – from shallow 2-3 metre sites to depths of 6-12 metres in a bid to save them.

On nearby island Fulhadhoo, building the coral frames supports the local economy. The frames are made from metal rebars and coated in a special mix of sand and resin to protect them from corrosion. Fragments of Acropora corals - collected from local healthy mature colonies - are attached securely before the frame is labelled, planted in the reef and photographed for monitoring purposes.  

“Our 9,000th coral frame is an uplifting milestone for us," comments Armando Kraenzlin, Regional Vice President and General Manager at Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru. "The Reefscapers teams at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives are all inspired by a shared love for the ocean and a determination to protect it from harm caused by human actions. As the restoration sites grow, we are seeing significant growth in the numbers of smaller species that live in and around the coral. This in turn attracts larger animals including sharks, eagle rays and turtles around the sites - restoring hope with every frame.”

The Reefscapers teams at Landaa Giraavaru, Kuda Huraa and Voavah know that one of the most important aspects of reef regeneration is education. School visits to local islands spread the conservation message and inspire a sense of custodianship of the reefs. Landaa also runs a marine biology internship for local students that is now in its third year, while guests at both resorts can learn about the pioneering project through hands-on reef building, as well as immersive programs for juniors at Kuda Huraa and Trainee Marine Savers modules for environmentally minded teens at Landaa Giraavaru.

Cordelia Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd Sign Agreement for the Transfer of Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun 


Mumbai, India –April 2025 — In a landmark development for the global cruise industry, Cordelia Cruises, India’s premier cruise line, and Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), a leading global cruise brand under Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: NCLH), have officially signed an agreement for the transfer of Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun to Cordelia’s growing fleet. 

These additions mark a significant milestone in Cordelia's journey to make cruise holidays more accessible, aspirational, and world-class for Indian travellers.

Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun, both part of Norwegian Cruise Line’s acclaimed Sun-class series, bring with them a legacy of world-class cruising, thoughtful design, and guest comfort. Each ship measures approximately 850 feet in length, with a gross tonnage of approximately 77,000, and is capable of accommodating around 2,000 guests and 900 crew members. Together, they will more than double Cordelia’s current capacity and enable the brand to explore new regions and offer broader, more immersive cruise experiences. 

One of the most significant upgrades with this expansion is the improved mix of stateroom categories. Both ships feature over 1,000 cabins each, including a selection of accommodations from solo staterooms to balconies and suites. Guests can look forward to an elevated onboard experience with multiple speciality dining venues, an elegant theatre and entertainment venues, casinos, a wellness centre, shops, an arcade, pools, sun decks, a fitness zone, and dedicated children’s and family entertainment areas. These sister ships are known for their spacious layouts, warm ambience, and versatility — catering seamlessly to both short getaways and longer destination-focused itineraries.

(Nasdaq: MAR) today announced it has entered into a strategic agreement with technology company PathSpot Technologies, Inc., the creator of a real-time hygiene management and digital kitchen system that protects against the threat and spread of illness with a handwashing validation system and equipment monitoring technology. As Marriott continues its legacy of hospitality industry innovation, including food and beverage operations, it is the first hospitality company to make PathSpot technology available to the company’s portfolio of over 9,300 properties across the U.S. and Canada, Caribbean and Latin America, Asia Pacific, and Europe and the Middle East.

All Marriott properties that have installed PathSpot hand scanner technology have also implemented the PathSpot SafetySuite. The interconnected hardware and software tools are helping properties modernize, digitize, and elevate back-of-house operations to create improvements in health and safety standards, like PathSpot’s real time temperature monitoring, which consistently records temperatures in refrigerators and freezers and alerts associates of any temperature-related issues that may impact food quality. 

Implementation of PathSpot’s Hand Scanners and SafetySuite have helped properties save an estimated two to eight hours per day in back-of-house monitoring and logging, freeing up associates to focus on guest-facing efforts and allowing the properties to create efficiencies in maintenance and engineering costs as well as to reduce food waste and energy consumption.
