VISTARA, NOW FIRST AIRLINE IN INDIA TO IMPLEMENT ROBOTIC AIRCRAFT EXTERIOR CLEANING

This mechanized aircraft exterior cleaning solution promises more efficiency, reduces carbon footprint and improves cost-effectiveness

Gurugram, June 2023: Vistara, India's leading full-service carrier and a joint venture of Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines announced yet another industry-first initiative of implementing Aerowash, an automated aircraft exterior washing and cleaning solution introduced by AeroTech Support Services Pvt. Ltd. Operated by a user friendly and wireless remote control, Aerowash is equipped with several safety features and alarm indicators. Its efficient micro-fiber brush drum provides a superior cleaning result of the aircraft exterior surface using a nearly waterless, dry-wash process.

This cutting-edge technology reiterates Vistara’s commitment to adopting innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiencies while also reducing its carbon footprint.  Aircraft detailing (or cleaning) is a critical aspect of maintenance in the aviation industry. Traditionally, it has relied on manual labor, which can be time-consuming, resource-intensive, and prone to human error. However, this mechanized program is not only time efficient but also sustainable. It reduces aerodynamic drag caused due to the accumulation of dirt, dust, grime, etc., and ultimately reduces the aircraft's weight. This directly translates to enhanced fuel efficiency by minimizing fuel burn.

By meticulously maintaining the cleanliness and integrity of the aircraft's exterior, this innovative approach will safeguard against structural damage, prevent corrosion caused by environmental factors and oil/fluid leakages, and extend the lifespan of the aircraft. Vistara has been conducting demo/proof of concept of AeroWash for sometime.

Pankaj Handa, Senior Vice President – Ground Operations, Vistara said, "We are delighted to become India’s first carrier to implement this one-of-a-kind initiative that underscores our unwavering commitment to invest in innovative, purpose-driven technologies since inception. This is yet another step as part of our ongoing efforts towards enhancing efficiencies across various areas of our operations through automation while also constantly looking at improved, and more sustainable ways to do business.”

Dr. Ashwani Khanna, Executive Director, AeroTech Support Services Pvt. Ltd. said, “We are excited to get associated with Vistara as it becomes the first airline to adopt this futuristic technology after a detailed assessment. Vistara is the first airline in India to sign up for this solution and lead the way for other airlines to follow. I am also happy with how the relationship with AISATS has evolved to a collaborative partnership that has the potential to have a deep positive impact on the entire industry in the coming years.”

Vistara is India’s highest-rated airline on Skytrax and TripAdvisor, and it has been the winner of several ‘Best Airline’ awards, besides being lauded for world-class cabin cleanliness and upholding high safety standards. The airline has recently been featured amongst World’s Top 20 Airlines while being recognized as the ‘Best Airline in India and Southern Asia’ for the second time in a row, ‘Best Airline Staff Service in India and Southern Asia’ for the fourth consecutive year, ‘Best Cabin Crew in India and Southern Asia’ for the second time in a row and ‘Best Business Class in India and Southern Asia’ at the coveted Skytrax World Airline Awards 2022. Vistara was also named the ‘Best Overall Airline’ in Central/Southern Asia at the 2023 Regional Passenger Choice Awards. Additionally, Vistara had recently received the ch-aviation Asia’s Third Youngest Airline Fleet award for the second consecutive year.

About Vistara (TATA SIA Airlines Limited): TATA SIA Airlines Limited, known by the brand name Vistara, is a 51:49 joint venture between Tata Sons Private Limited and Singapore Airlines Limited (SIA). Vistara brings together Tata’s and SIA’s legendary hospitality and renowned service excellence to offer the finest full-service flying experience in India. Vistara commenced its commercial operations on January 9, 2015, with an aim to set new standards in the aviation industry in India and it today connects destinations across India and abroad. The airline currently has a fleet of 61 aircraft, including 46 Airbus A320neo, 10 Airbus A321, 1 Boeing 737-800NG, and 4 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, and has flown more than 45 million customers since starting operations.

How chefs are pushing the boundaries of tradition and innovation by Dean Rodrigues Executive Pastry Chef, Academy of Pastry and Culinary Arts

Gone are the days when people would settle for anything and everything. The modern consumers of today demand inclusivity and uniqueness in everything they consume, be it clothes, eatables, personal care, or health care products. In response to the changing demands and preferences of consumers, it has led upon industries to update their conventional strategies and adopt novel approaches and the baking industry is no stranger to it. Consequently, modern chefs today are infusing new techniques and practices into baking to satiate both peoples' cravings for sweets and their desire for a unique food item.

According to a study by IMARC Group, the size of the Indian bakery market reportedly reached $11.3 billion in 2022 and is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.8% between 2023 and 2028, reaching $ 21.2 billion. This growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for unique bakery products in India. Cakes, pastries, muffins, and pies, which traditionally just satisfied the sweet craving of individuals, are now also taking into account the health-centric demands of individuals, thanks to the innovative techniques adopted by chefs. Therefore, it is pretty evident how important chefs have been in pushing the bounds of tradition and introducing innovation, which has transformed the baking industry as a whole.

New-age chefs: Leveraging the power of innovation

Embracing experimentation: Gone are the times when chefs utilized standard baking techniques for all bakery products. Nowadays, modern chefs have revolutionized their approach to various bakery products. In fact, they are essentially experimenting with ingredients to fit into the individuals' newly developed preference for healthier products. In that regard, they are primarily moving away from refined sugar and towards more naturally occurring sweeteners like honey and maple syrup as well as flavours derived from fruit concentrates and honey and coming with their own unique recipes in return.

Natural ingredients: Organic, natural, vegan, plant-based, low-calorie and sugar-free, all these terms have become the talk of the town in today's modern-day society. Adapting to these contemporary trends, chefs have moved past their conventional recipes. In place of refined grains, which have been depleted of their nutrient-rich bran and germ, chefs today frequently employ whole grains and millets when baking biscuits, waffles, and tea cakes since they are minimally processed and packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Similarly, plant-based milk and dairy alternatives, nut butters, natural food colourings and plant-based oils are largely being integrated by chefs in their recipes in order to upgrade the classic bakery products with a healthy touch.

Tech-enabled tools: This goes without saying that baking is a delicate task that demands thorough comprehension of several scientific and hygienic principles. With a motive to achieve ultimate precision in their baking recipes and ultimate finishing, modern chefs are largely utilizing tech-enabled machines and tools. In fact, a range of measurement devices have also emerged, enabling them to achieve their ideal baking recipes with pinpoint accuracy. Additionally, these modern appliances work faster and produce more output of superior quality, which is something that chefs are greatly benefiting from.

Modern chefs: Striking a new era of innovation

Though a piece of cake, a scrumptious cookie, or a classic waffle still qualifies as the perfect finish to a meal, the only difference is that individuals today demand their sweat treats to be healthy at the same time. To meet the evolving needs of the public, chefs have abandoned their traditional recipes in favour of new ones that place a stronger emphasis on healthier and more organic components. Moreover, technological developments have provided chefs with the push they needed to give up the traditional method of baking and switch to a more automated one.

Given the dynamic nature of the bakery industry, it is expected that new flavours and cooking methods will emerge, providing chefs with the opportunity to experiment with new ideas and create something unique.

Accor, First-quarter 2023 revenue of €1,139 million up 54% like-for-like

Sébastien Bazin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Accor, said:

“In first-quarter 2023, Accor once again stepped-up business growth across all regions and in its two divisions: Premium, Midscale and Economy; and Luxury & Lifestyle. These excellent performances were driven in particular by the strong rebound in Asia, good price levels, and increased occupancy rates. They reflect the attractiveness of our brands, the commitment of our teams, and an ever-greater desire for travel and adventure on the part of our guests.
Given this highly positive start of the year, we have revised our 2023 guidance upwards, with double-digit RevPAR growth versus 2022."

The first quarter of 2023 demonstrated once again the robustness of the business recovery, quarter after quarter. This further acceleration in RevPAR (up 19% compared with first-quarter 2019) notably reflects the rebound of hotels in Asia following the lifting of the strict zero-COVID policy in China in late 2022. All the other regions also contributed to maintaining business activity at a substantially higher level than before the crisis.

The underlying dynamics observed in previous quarters remained in place, with average prices still high and sequentially improving occupancy rate but slightly lower than in 2019.

In first-quarter 2023, Accor opened 36 hotels, for around 4,400 rooms, and has thus achieved net network growth of 2.9% in the last 12 months. At end-March 2023, the Group had a hotel portfolio of 800,321 rooms (5,444 hotels) and a pipeline of around 214,000 rooms (1,241 hotels).

Consolidated revenue

The Group reported first-quarter 2023 revenue of €1,139 million, up 54% like-for-like (LFL) versus Q1 2022. By activity, this growth breaks down into a 71% increase for Management & Franchise (M&F), a 60% increase for Services to Owners, and a 37% increase for Hotel Assets and Other.

By division (excluding Holding & Intercos), €681 million of revenue was generated by the Premium, Midscale and Economy division, up 62% LFL compared with first-quarter 2022, and €477 million by Luxury & Lifestyle, up 52% LFL.

Minor Hotels, a hotel owner, operator and investor, currently with a portfolio of 530 hotels and resorts in 56 countries across Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Indian Ocean, announces its second Anantara property in Brazil. Slated to launch in 2026, the new-build Anantara Preá Ceará Resort will be located in the state of Ceará on the country’s northeast coast.

Soon to start development on Preá Beach in the municipality of Cruz and close to the well-known tourist destination of Jericoacoara, Anantara Preá Ceará Resort will offer 60 guest rooms and villas, 25 branded residential bungalows, some with private pools, and a 120 sqm Presidential Suite. To be built within the high-end Vila Carnaúba real estate development, Anantara Preá will offer guests access to all Vila Carnaúba’s amenities, such as the restaurants and bars, sports facilities and a gym, a kids club, a kitesurfing school and a variety of nature walks. The resort will also be home to a regional restaurant and an Anantara Spa which will offer an extensive range of spa treatments and wellness programmes.

The state of Ceará is well known for its fine sand dunes and beaches, natural lagoons and mangroves thriving with nature, with around a third of the state’s territory forming part of the Jericoacoara National Park, one of the most beautiful spots in Brazil’s northeast. The coastline is also well established as one of the country’s most sought-after destinations for watersports such as windsurfing, kitesurfing and wing foil surfing.

The new resort is being developed in partnership with Grupo Carnaúba. The partnership aims to strengthen the real estate market in the region with the introduction of the Anantara brand providing a luxury experience for discerning travellers. The project will also be focused on sustainability, ensuring the values of the local natural beauty are incorporated in harmony with the guest experience.

The ecoresort will extend over an area in excess of 52,000 square metres. The project’s design and decor are being created by Miguel Pinto Guimarães, a Brazilian architect well known for his contemporary creations which unite comfort in total harmony with the natural environment and the beauty of the surroundings. The landscaping will be developed by Embyá Paisagens & Ecossistemas. The hotel’s construction will focus on natural and regional materials.

The sustainable and social initiatives of Vila Carnaúba, which is in the final stages of development, are an essential element of this partnership. These will include waste disposal and recycling, reforestation initiatives, replanting of Carnauba Wax Palm Trees, a fan palm indigenous to northeastern Brazil, along with supporting local food producers. At night there will be reduced lighting to preserve the sky’s panorama and to minimise the impact on the local fauna.

Anantara Preá Ceará Resort will be accessible via the regional airport of Jericoacoara just 15 minutes’ away, or transfers can be arranged by car or small plane to Preá from the state’s main airport in Ceará which is 300 km from the resort.

In addition, Qatar is home to the largest aggregation of whale sharks that prefer the warm and shallow sea waters of the country’s northeast coast, located about 145 km from Doha and reached by yacht. Qatar also accommodates the world’s second-largest population of Dugongs at the Al Thakira mangrove forest. One can witness these underwater creatures in full glory from April to September by kayaking.
