How to Plan a Road Trip for this Festive Season

A festive season trip is an incredible way to celebrate the season with your loved ones. Ideally, with the long weekend and many days off approaching, a road trip is a perfect option for travelling with your family, allowing you to bond, share joy, and create lasting memories together. If you're considering going on one this time, here's an easy guide on how to plan a road trip this season.

1.      Choose a destination and plan your itinerary

Start by selecting a destination that aligns with your interests. It's a good idea to choose a destination that isn't too far away for your first road trip. You should research your destination thoroughly to create an itinerary that includes must-visit attractions, local festivities, and special events. Planning your activities ensures you make the most of your trip.

For those who wish to skip this hassle, the Mappls KOGO app is a great solution. The all-in-one travel platform's AI Trip Maker helps users pick a destination based on their interests and budget, and it generates comprehensive, personalized itineraries within seconds. These itineraries include routes, accommodations, experiences, restaurants, and attractions, all bookable at competitive prices.

2.      Choose a vehicle

Decide if you're using your vehicle or renting one. While it depends on the number of passengers, the terrain you'll encounter, and your budget, having a car is usually a preferred choice. Not only is it a convenient mode of travel, but it is also safe in case of weather or other uncertainties.

Renting self-drive vehicles has been a very popular option amongst youngsters lately. Service providers such as IndusGo, ZoomCar, and Revv offer a range of well-maintained, clean, and insured cars that suit one's needs to ensure a hassle-free road trip experience.

3.      Book accommodation

During the festive season, popular destinations can become crowded. It's advisable to book your accommodation in advance to ensure you have a place to stay without paying hiked prices. Online OTAs, depending on your budget and location, can list a wide range of lodging options, including resorts, hotels, hostels, guesthouses, or even unique holiday rentals such as BnBs.

4.      Pack your essentials and check you documents

Packing for a road trip is a balance of practicality and holiday spirit. It's extremely important to pack essentials like clothes, toiletries, a first-aid kit, and any specific items you'll need for the destination you plan to visit. If traveling with family or kids, you can also carry easy-to-play travel games for fun. Simultaneously, ensure that you have all your travel documents, including your Aadhaar, driver's license, vehicle registration, and any permits needed for specific regions. It's generally advised to keep soft copies of all these important documents to be safe in case of theft or loss.

5.      Know and respect the local customs

Before starting your trip, it's important to acquaint yourself with the local customs and traditions of your chosen destination. Respect should be shown adhering to appropriate attire and behaviors, particularly if you intend to partake in local festivities. Be mindful of varying religious and cultural practices, and interact with the local community with cultural sensitivity and awareness.

6.      Ensure safety

Safety is of great importance on any trip. Before leaving, one should check for the vehicle's brakes, tires, and engine. A first-aid kit, emergency tools, and a spare car phone charger should be carried. It is also advised to plan your routes and have a downloaded map or GPS navigation system with you.

7.      Explore and enjoy

While it's important to have a well-planned itinerary, don't forget to leave room for spontaneity. Take breaks to appreciate the picturesque landscapes and savor the simple pleasures of the road. You can embrace the spirit of adventure and be open to unexpected discoveries. Exploring local markets, trying regional dishes, and engaging with the locals will help you truly immerse yourself in the festive ambiance and make the most of the trip.

Stars Align For Adventure: Skyscanner's Astrology Survey Reveals Your Ideal Travel Destination

Skyscanner India’s newly launched report explores how the stars affect traveller behaviour in the country

INDIA, November 2023 – As another year comes to a close, India gazes towards the stars for inspiration. In a recent report unveiled by Skyscanner, the global travel marketplace, it's revealed that a striking 88% of the nation places their faith in astrology to guide them through life, helping them make important decisions including, travel.

Indian travellers love food and Skyscanner’s recent Travel Trends Report for 2024 revealed that over 70% of people are guided by their taste buds. Aquarians are the foodies who lead the way with over 93% of them being inclined towards travelling to a location solely for its cuisine. Astrologer Anisha Arora also says that Aquarians are known for their impeccable taste in food and Skyscanner suggests that they pair up with Sagittarius, as 82% of them are adventurous with their food choices and are willing to travel to offbeat locations to discover uncommon cuisines.

Apart from travelling for food, Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2024 report also observed that more than half of Indian travellers hone in on their cultural calling when it comes to travel, basing their holiday plans on popular films and fashion trends. Over 55% of Capricorns are made for the red carpet, opting to travel to locations featured in their favourite films or shows - Arora suggests they consult with their Pisces counterparts who are known to love movies while choosing their next location! On the other hand, Sagittarians are showing off their sartorial skills; 74% of them take looks from the fashion runway to the flight runway for their trips.

When it comes to traveller psyche, Skyscanner found that Virgos are the kings of structure, with over half of them (50%) preferring to have well-structured itineraries with planned activities and some free time. Skyscanner also explored how anxiety affects travellers and found that over 48% of Scorpios feel increased anxiety while flying.

Other key survey findings:

  • Finding Love on Location: Skyscanner found that 53% of Indians travel in the pursuit of love, playing cupid, the global marketplace for travel suggests that Capricorns, Libras and Aries should find each other on these expeditions as more than half of them are travelling to find their future partners.

  • Beach Babies: Skyscanner found that over 55% of Indians actively seek out adventures while travelling. Leos, Capricorns and Scorpios are the true aquaholics with over 55% preferring to spend their holidays by the bay.

Mumbai – Goa at INR 5,857

Mumbai – Port Blair at INR 53,832

Mumbai – Malé at INR 17,739

  • Red Eye Chasers: When it comes to travel timings, Cancerians are known to be early risers, with more than half of them (57%) preferring to catch a flight between 12 AM - 6 AM. Lucky for them, catching the red eye usually results in reduced prices. Adjust the ‘departure times’ slider in the search filter to search for flights during less in-demand timings!

Mohit Joshi, Skyscanner's Travel Trends and Destination Expert, notes, “Skyscanner's recent survey unveils the intriguing ways in which astrology influences travel behaviour among Indian travellers. As we wrap up another year, it's interesting to observe the multifaceted factors shaping Indian travel choices. The revelation that a substantial 88% of the nation turns to astrology for life decisions, including travel, underscores the popularity of wanderlust in India’s diverse culture. Whether you’re travelling for food, music, views or monuments, Skyscanner remains committed to empowering travellers to explore the world within their means, offering tools like the 'Everywhere' search feature to make global exploration accessible and budget-friendly."

Astrologer Anisha Arora adds “When it comes to Zodiacs and their travel preferences, individuals are looking to travel for rejuvenation, spirituality, evolution, and becoming better versions of themselves. In these transformational times, the earth elements, fire, air, and water elements are looking to travel more to places closer to water or spiritual destinations. When it comes to travelling according to their zodiacs, travellers, apart from their traits, should also consider favourable times to travel according to their star signs.”

With the holiday season approaching, Mohit recommends the following hacks that can help bag a bargain quickly:

  • Consider opting for red-eye flights as a savvy travel strategy. These flights, either exceptionally early or late, often come with more budget-friendly price tags due to reduced demand. Embrace the opportunity to rise early or stay up late for your vacation and relish the added perk of arriving at your destination in the morning, maximizing your day from the get-go!

  • The ‘Whole Month’ search tool lets you see cheap flights immediately and pick the right deal. Consider travelling a day before or a day after your original departure dates, flying on less popular days of the week is always cheaper.

  • Another money-saving strategy is considering nearby airports. When flights to your desired destination prove costly, neighboring cities might present more wallet-friendly airfare options. Opt for this approach and enhance your travel experience with a scenic drive to your final destination.

Ingredient Ideology | 12 Healthy Foods to Deal with Iron Deficiency BY: Dr. Kaviraj Khialani- Celebrity Master Chef.

Introduction

To combat iron deficiency, it's essential to incorporate a variety of healthy foods into your diet. Consider including lean red meat, poultry, and fish, which are rich sources of iron that is readily absorbed by the body. Plant-based options like legumes, including beans, lentils, and chickpeas, as well as spinach and other leafy greens, offer non-heme iron, which can be enhanced with the help of vitamin C-rich foods like citrus fruits and bell peppers. Nuts, seeds, whole grains, and fortified cereals can also contribute to your iron intake. Dried fruits such as raisins and apricots provide a convenient snack option. Maintaining a balanced diet with these iron-rich foods, while being mindful of inhibitors like excess tea and coffee consumption, can help address iron deficiency. For personalized guidance, consult a healthcare professional.

Why Is Iron important for our body Function?

Iron is crucial for the proper functioning of our body for several reasons:

1. Oxygen Transport: Iron is a key component of haemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that binds to oxygen and carries it from the lungs to all body tissues. This process is essential for supplying oxygen to cells and maintaining overall bodily functions.

2. Energy Production: Iron is involved in the electron transport chain, a process in cellular respiration. This chain produces adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the body's primary energy currency. Adequate iron levels are necessary for efficient energy production.

3. Brain Function: Iron plays a role in cognitive function and brain development, particularly during childhood. It's important for proper brain growth and maintaining mental alertness and concentration.

4. Immune System Support: Iron contributes to a healthy immune system by helping the body fight off infections and diseases. White blood cells, which are crucial for immune defence, also rely on iron.

5. DNA Synthesis: Iron is necessary for DNA synthesis, which is essential for cell division and growth. It's crucial for the regeneration and repair of tissues throughout the body.

6. Metabolism: Iron is involved in various metabolic processes, including the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. It helps the body efficiently these nutrients for growth and maintenance.

7. Regulation of Body Temperature: Iron is essential for maintaining normal body temperature. It plays a role in regulating the body's metabolic rate, which influences heat production.

8. Skin, Hair, and Nail Health: Iron contributes to healthy skin, hair, and nails. A deficiency can result in various skin and nail conditions, including pallor and brittle nails.

Overall, iron is an essential mineral for maintaining good health and well-being. It supports vital physiological functions, and its deficiency can lead to anaemia, fatigue, weakness, and a range of other health issues. It's important to ensure an adequate intake of dietary iron to maintain optimal bodily function.

How Do We Get Iron In The Best Possible ways through foods and ingredients in cooking?

To obtain iron in the best possible ways through foods and cooking ingredients, consider the following strategies:

 1. Choose Iron Sources: Heme iron, found in animal products, is more easily absorbed by the body than non-heme iron from plant sources. Incorporate lean red meat, poultry, and seafood (such as fish and shellfish) into your diet.

2. Opt for Iron-Rich Plant Foods: Non-heme iron is abundant in various plant-based sources. Include beans (e.g., lentils, chickpeas, and black beans), tofu, spinach, and other dark leafy greens in your meals.

3. Mix Heme and Non-Heme Iron: Combine heme iron sources with non-heme iron sources in your meals to maximize iron absorption. For example, pair meat with beans or add spinach to a chicken salad.

4. Fortified Foods: Look for fortified cereals, bread, and other grain products, as they can be rich in iron. Check food labels to identify products that contain added iron.

5. Enhance Absorption with Vitamin C: Vitamin C enhances the absorption of non-heme iron. Include vitamin C-rich foods like citrus fruits, strawberries, bell peppers, or broccoli in your meals.

6. Cook in Cast: Cooking in cast iron cookware can increase the iron content of your food. Acidic foods, like tomato-based dishes, benefit most from this cooking method.

7. Avoid Excessive Tea and Coffee: Tannins in tea and coffee can inhibit iron absorption. Try to space out the consumption of these beverages from your iron-rich meals.

8. Diversify Your Diet: Incorporate a wide range of iron-rich foods into your diet to ensure a balanced intake of nutrients. Explore various recipes and ingredients to keep your meals interesting.

9. Consider Iron Supplements: If you have a diagnosed iron deficiency, consult a healthcare professional for guidance on iron supplements. Supplements should be taken under medical supervision to prevent overconsumption.

10. Be Mindful of Iron Blockers: Some foods, like calcium-rich dairy products and certain whole grains, can inhibit iron absorption. Try to separate consumption of these foods from your iron-rich meals.

By incorporating a combination of heme and non-heme iron sources, along with vitamin C-rich foods and mindful cooking practices, you can optimize your iron intake through your diet. Remember to consult with a healthcare professional if you suspect or have been diagnosed with an iron deficiency for personalized guidance.

Snack Chat: Fostering Employee Engagement in Hospitality Companies with Multiple Units

Snack Chat (Keyword) Workplace social video chat app. It creates random 1-on-1 calls, supplying icebreaker questions to participants.

Hospitality companies with multiple units face a unique challenge when it comes to maintaining employee engagement. With staff dispersed across various locations, it can be difficult to create a sense of unity and foster meaningful connections among team members. However, the advent of workplace social video chat apps, such as Snack Chat, provides an innovative solution to this problem.
Snack Chat, an app designed specifically for workplace communication, offers random 1-on-1 calls that connect employees from different units. This feature alone holds immense potential for boosting employee engagement. By creating unexpected interactions between team members who may not have had the chance to connect otherwise, Snack Chat serves as a virtual icebreaker, breaking down barriers and encouraging organic conversations to take place.
One of the greatest advantages of Snack Chat is its ability to supply icebreaker questions to participants. These ready-made conversation starters help initiate dialogues and keep the discussions flowing smoothly. For hospitality companies, this opens up opportunities for staff to form connections beyond their immediate workgroups and units. Interactions between front-of-house and back-of-house employees, for example, can enhance cross-departmental collaboration and understanding, ultimately leading to improved service and teamwork.
Moreover, the random nature of the 1-on-1 calls generated by Snack Chat ensures that connections are made across a wide range of individuals. It transcends hierarchies and encourages employees from various levels of the organization to connect and share experiences. This not only increases engagement, but it also promotes a culture of inclusivity and fosters a sense of belonging within the company.
For hospitality companies with multiple units, Snack Chat can also serve as a platform for knowledge-sharing and best practice sharing. Employees can use the app to discuss challenges they face in their respective locations and learn from each other's experiences. This exchange of ideas can lead to innovative solutions and improved operations across the organization as a whole.
Additionally, Snack Chat can be leveraged by hospitality companies to boost employee morale through virtual events and activities. Companies can organize virtual team building exercises, such as trivia games or cooking challenges, that bring employees from different units together in a fun and interactive way. This not only strengthens relationships but also reinforces a sense of belonging and shared purpose.
While Snack Chat undoubtedly offers numerous benefits for hospitality companies with multiple units, it is essential to implement this tool thoughtfully. Companies must establish guidelines to ensure that the app is used appropriately and to prevent it from becoming a distraction from work. It is important to strike a balance between fostering connections and maintaining productivity.
In conclusion, Snack Chat provides an invaluable solution for hospitality companies with multiple units to enhance employee engagement. By facilitating random 1-on-1 calls and supplying icebreaker questions, this workplace social video chat app helps employees form connections, fosters collaboration, and strengthens the overall organizational culture. By embracing technology that encourages interactions and knowledge sharing, hospitality companies can create a more engaged workforce and ultimately deliver exceptional guest experiences.

India’s 1st Cane Juice Rum Maker, Piccadily Distilleries Launches Camikara 3 Year Old Aged Rum

Following the success of Camikara 12YO, which is India’s first and only gold medal winning rum at IWSC 2023 Awards, the spirits company expands its portfolio of pure cane juice rums and is committed to producing world-class spirits

November 2023: Piccadily Distilleries announces the launch of Camikara 3 Years Old (YO) – a 100% pure cane juice rum, aged in American oak barrels for three years. Unlike most Indian rums produced using molasses or grain ENA, Camikara takes pride in being India’s first premium, pure cane juice rum. It is a testament to India’s growing admiration for good quality rum, with the rum market foreseeing an annual growth of 5.55% (CAGR 2023-2028), according to a Statista report.

Camikara 3YO, bottled at 42.8% ABV, is a departure from the myth that rum is a seasonal spirit. Inviting young consumers to experiment, and impressing rum enthusiasts with its complexity, Camikara 3YO is a versatile drink, a rum like no other. On the rocks or as the foundation of a preferred cocktail, it can be savoured all year long, serving as a canvas for the true essence of the cane juice to shine through.

Elevating the legacy and tradition of rum in India, Camikara was born to rediscover the past and pave the way for the future. The inspiration came from the culture of Punjab, where there’s a history of distilling cane juice to make a local household brew called Laahan. Piccadily Distilleries aims to revive this age-old tradition, take it further with advanced maturing techniques and present the beauty of premium Indian rums in the form of Camikara.

Carrying forward the reputation of its award-winning 12YO variant, Camikara 3YO is a step further in the company’s vision of making premium Indian spirits more accessible. India is the world's largest producer of sugarcane and has a rich history of producing cane juice distillates or rums. But due to years of colonization, the domination of Western whiskies and the subsequent devaluation of rum as a quality brown spirit, India never produced a premium category rum. The story is similar to that of tea and coffee; India was primarily a coffee producing and coffee drinking nation until the British colonisers introduced tea. It is only recently, with the conscious efforts of the new generation, that both indigenous Indian coffee and rum are reclaiming their space and finding their footing on a global scale.

Speaking about the launch, Siddhartha Sharma, Founder, Piccadily Distilleries, said, “We are very excited to expand our portfolio of pure cane juice rums and launch Camikara 3YO. Camikara was born out of a desire to revive the age-old distilling tradition from India and introduce an indigenous premium category rum. When we launched the limited-edition Camikara 12YO, it became the first ever Indian rum to win a ‘Gold Medal’ at the prestigious IWSC Awards 2023. This inspired us to expand our rum portfolio and make the golden elixir more accessible. We hope that Camikara 3YO will carry on the legacy and cater to a wider audience.”

Camikara 3YO stands as a testament to purity. It entices with classic, naturally sweet top notes of sugarcane. On the nose, it offers intriguing hints of funkiness, vegetal greenness and a subtle embrace of wet leather. Then, a fruity sweetness unfolds, reminiscent of melons, complemented by a gentle touch of honey and understated hints of vanilla, enhancing the innate sweetness of its aroma. On the palate, Camikara 3YO offers a masterful alchemy of oak and cane juice spirit. Subtle oak and char-induced smoky notes form a sturdy foundation allow the sugarcane congeners to gracefully evolve. The outcome is a well-rounded and an impeccably balanced spirit. A grand manifestation of pure sugarcane juice rum, Camikara 3YO offers a gratifying finish with each sip.

Camikara 3YO is currently available in Haryana at INR 1,500, Rajasthan at INR 2,410 and Uttarkhand at INR 1,830. The spirit will soon be available in Maharashtra, Goa, Punjab, Assam, Arunachal, MP, Chandigarh, UP and more.

They are highly valued for their distinctive flavor and aroma, which adds depth to various

dishes. Apart from their culinary uses, curry leaves are also known for their potential health benefits. They are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, making them a popular choice in traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda. Additionally, curry leaves are believed to have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and digestive properties. In Indian cooking, they are often tempered in hot oil to release their flavor before being added to curries, soups, rice dishes, and chutneys.

What are curry leaves? How do they help us in day to day life.

Curry leaves, scientifically known as Murraya koenigii, are aromatic leaves derived from the curry tree, native to India and other parts of Asia. They are widely used in Indian cuisine for their distinctive flavor and aroma. Besides enhancing the taste of dishes, curry leaves offer several benefits in day-to-day life:

Nutritional Value: Curry leaves are rich in vitamins A, B, C, and E, as well as minerals like calcium, iron, and phosphorus, providing essential nutrients for overall health.

Digestive Health: They aid digestion by promoting the secretion of digestive enzymes. Consuming curry leaves regularly can help prevent indigestion and constipation.

Hair Care: Curry leaves are believed to be beneficial for hair health. They are often used in

hair oils and hair masks to reduce hair fall, strengthen the hair roots, and prevent premature graying.

Diabetes Management: Some studies suggest that curry leaves may help in regulating blood sugar levels, making them beneficial for people with diabetes.

Weight Management: Curry leaves are low in calories and high in fiber, making them a healthy addition to weight loss diets. The fiber content promotes a feeling of fullness, preventing

overeating.

constipation.

How can curry leaves offer taste and flavors in our Indian dishes?

Curry leaves are a quintessential ingredient in Indian cuisine, valued for the unique taste and aroma they impart to dishes. Here's how they contribute to the flavor profile of Indian dishes:

Aromatic Essence: Curry leaves have a strong, aromatic flavor that is released when they are heated in oil. This process, known as tempering or tadka, helps in infusing the oil with the essence of the leaves. The aromatic essence enhances the overall fragrance of the dish.

Subtle Bitterness: Curry leaves have a slightly bitter taste, which, when used in moderation,

adds a subtle depth to the flavor profile of the dish. This bitterness balances the other flavors in the dish, creating a harmonious taste.

Notes: The leaves also contribute earthy notes to the dish, making it feel grounded and

authentic. This earthiness is particularly important in traditional Indian recipes, where the combination of spices and natural flavors is crucial.

Enhancing Other Flavors: Curry leaves have the remarkable ability to enhance the flavors of other ingredients used in the dish. They complement spices like mustard seeds, cumin, and fenugreek exceptionally well, creating a well-rounded and flavorful taste.

Freshness: Fresh curry leaves have a vibrant green color and a fresh, citrusy aroma. Adding them to dishes imparts a sense of freshness, especially in curries and soups, making the overall culinary experience more delightful.

Versatility: Curry leaves are versatile and can be used in various dishes, including curries, soups, chutneys, and rice dishes. They adapt to different flavor profiles, making them a valuable ingredient in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisines.
