Interview Questions I Like To Ask - Akash Kalia- Commercial Director at DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Bangalore
/Tell me something that is not in your CV/Resume?
This question is more of an icebreaker and sets the ball rolling for the rest of the conversation. A great opening answer can help set a good initial impression.
What do you know about our company?
This question sounds like a cliché but holds some amazing insights. Firstly, it helps gauge the level of interest the candidate has in the company/position interviewing for. Secondly, it also helps bring to light the person’s ability to research. .
Are you applying for other jobs?
It’s a straight forward question. It helps bring to light how actively the person is seeking a change. If serious about changing jobs then it is likely that he/she is applying to other positions. If asked about names, it is absolutely legitimate to say you prefer not to disclose that information at this stage.
Do you have any questions for me?
This one tends to come up every time as a closing question. This is where the ball is in the candidates court. Irrespective of how the interview went if this question is handled/answered well it can change the course of the entire decision making process. It’s usually one of the last few opportunities to create a lasting impact for candidate. A generic question might be, “how soon can I start if I were to get the job.” Another idea is to ask how quickly should I be productive or ask about next steps and when you can expect to hear back.
