Interview Questions I Like To Ask - Anurag Mishra, HR Manager at ITC Gardenia, Bengaluru
/1. What is the career growth plan of the Individual and how is he/she planning to achieve this objective?
While this may appear to be a common interview question, the main objective of putting forth this question is to understand the interest levels, zeal to grow, potential to explore and also to decide where would they fit into the growth curve of the company.
2. While this is not a question but when interviewing the candidate, it is imperative to inform/explain to him/her about the prevailing organization structure, growth opportunities, going beyond initiatives and most importantly the organization’s culture & ethics. Also asking the candidate about their expectations of the job so the employer and employee are on the same page.
3. How long they have worked in the previous organization - service tenure and career stability are two important factors to measure whether the candidate will support the organization as and when the same is required.
4. This is again a common question but essential. Skill set, trade related and functional questions to understand industry/department knowledge of an individual and determine if they are a right fit for the department they are joining.
Further to the above, we need to maintain a unique way of approaching and attracting talent rather than just selecting/rejecting the Individual basis their profile. We need to see the growth path of an individual, potential opportunities, capability of talent positioning, etc. The objective of hiring a resource is always to fulfil the broader spectrum of filling the skill gap. Talent positioning thereafter becomes an easier process when the company has made the right hire.
