New Meliá Pattaya Hotel Announces Javier Gimeno as General Manager

A hospitality veteran with three decades of industry experience in Asia and Europe, Javier Gimeno, will take charge of the new Meliá Pattaya Hotel.

The 234-room and suite hotel with expansive sea views is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025 in the heart of vibrant Pattaya, a short drive from Bangkok on the Gulf of Thailand’s scenic east coast.

He joins Meliá Pattaya Hotel after working in senior management roles with Marriott International for more than a decade. Most recently, he was the cluster general manager with Marriott & Four Points by Sheraton Tianjin National Convention and Exhibition Centre in Tianjin, China.

He started his career in the mid-90s in his native Spain as a bellman at the Hilton Barcelona, and then held roles in guest services and operations departments at hotels in Barcelona and Andorra. His work in Asia goes back to 2000 where he worked in Shanghai before becoming a general manager with Barceló Hotels & Resorts in Davao, The Philippines, in 2002. His career has also taken him to Hong Kong and Malaysia.

A distinguished graduate with a Three-Year Diploma in Hotel Management from the Institute of Hotel Management and a Degree in Humanities from Delhi University, he has curated an impressive career trajectory across iconic properties. His remarkable professional journey includes leadership roles at Fairmont Maldives, Shangri-La Hotel Colombo and  multiple strategic positions at Shangri-La Eros New Delhi, where he is now rejoining the hotel's leadership team, having been an integral consistent part of the family.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Hailing from Bangkok, Thailand, Chef Thanakit has worked at some of the most distinguished hotels in the UAE and Thailand, where he perfected his craft. Most recently, he held the role of Chef de Partie at The Thai Kitchen, Park Hyatt Dubai, where his work helped shape the restaurant’s reputation for incredible Thai cuisine. His experience spans multiple prestigious locations, including Anantara Eastern Mangroves in Abu Dhabi and Saeng Restaurant in Thailand, making him a perfect fit for the dynamic culinary environment at Spectra.

In his new role, Chef Thanakit will be responsible for introducing authentic Thai cuisine across all areas of the hotel, including in-room dining, brunches, and even creating innovative Thai snacks for the bar. He will collaborate closely with other chefs to design Thai-inspired dishes for corporate and social events hosted in the hotel’s banquet spaces, offering guests an indelible experience with the savours of Thailand.
