Given his strong 24-year track record in the entertainment and hospitality industry, I am confident Jeff is the perfect person to lead Sixthman forward into its very bright future and continue to build on its 2023 successes.”

Thomas Cook and SOTC announce exclusive charter flights to Bhutan Special Summer departures from Bengaluru

Fresh-Unique experiences: archery, authentic local meals, lunch at a farmhouse, beer tasting

Experienced local Bhutanese guides Attractive pricing. Special discount: Rs. 10,000.00 per person

Mumbai, January 2024: Post-pandemic, with Indians becoming increasingly discerning travellers and seeking fresh new destinations, Bhutan is emerging strongly on the radar - displaying a growth in demand of 25% compared to last year. To capitalise on this high potential, Thomas Cook (India) Limited - India’s leading omnichannel travel services company and its Group Company, SOTC Travel, have launched a ground-breaking initiative – exclusive charter flights to Paro (Bhutan) from Bengaluru, starting April 2024.

South India represents a key source market for Thomas Cook & SOTC Travel, already contributing over 45% to the companies’ business to the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan, and growing. However, the significant challenge is the lack of direct air connectivity from India’s southern region, resulting in both an increase in cost (approximately 15%), and inconvenience (multiple flights, changing airports/terminals, multiple check-ins and baggage drop/collection, etc). This gap formed the genesis of the companies’ Blue Ocean strategy - with the launch of special charters to Bhutan from Bengaluru.

Bengaluru represents a strategic gateway, giving Thomas Cook and SOTC increased access via a hub and spoke model, to the powerful and growing source markets – of not just Karnataka, but also the larger Southern region.

The Thomas Cook and SOTC Bhutan charters include group tours (GIT), individual travel (FIT) and ad-hoc groups, in a focussed endeavour that targets multigenerational families, groups of friends, couples/honeymooners and Young India.

Bhutan is known to be one of the happiest and greenest countries in the world and the first carbon-negative nation. The destination offers travellers spectacular scenic vistas, distinctive monasteries, romantic hotspots, nature reserves, Himalayan terrain and lush green valleys, rejuvenating hot-stone baths; with its unique culture and its warm welcoming people being a strong USP. Bhutan offers something for every discerning traveller.

Unique Experiences:

The Companies’ Bhutan Charter product includes handpicked experiences: a visit to Bhutan’s most sought after monasteries- Taktsang Palphug, Rinpung Dzong, the ancient Punakha Dzong; exploring the weekend market in Thimphu; learning archery; hot stone therapy at natural hot springs; sightseeing near Bhutan’s oldest walking suspension bridge - the Punakha Suspension Bridge. The tour also includes local Bhutanese meals, lunch at a farmhouse, beer tasting with snacks at Paro; and a local Bhutanese guide throughout the tour.

Outdoor/adventure and nature enthusiasts get to experience the adrenalin rush of white water rafting at Po Chu and Moochu confluence or kayaking at Wang Chhu; a trek to the Taktsang Palphug Monastery (Tiger’s Nest Monastery); bird watching to witness over 600 species of rare birds.

To reassure and support customers, all Thomas Cook and SOTC’s charters to Bhutan will be accompanied by the Companies’ expert tour managers from Bengaluru.

Tour Highlights:

· Charter departures: April and May 2024

· Duration of tour: 8 days

· Destinations included: Thimpu, Punakha and Paro

Mr. Rajeev Kale, President & Country Head – Holidays, MICE, Visa, Thomas Cook (India) Limited said, “Innovation is in our DNA, and the launch of our exclusive charters from Bengaluru is a smart strategy to leverage the growing interest towards the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. South India has contributed the largest share to Bhutan and is a significant and growing market that we intend to tap via the launch of our charter departures. To inspire customers from this high growth market, we have designed a unique portfolio of products that offer the best of Bhutan. Bengaluru was chosen due to its central location and ease in connectivity across key source markets of South India.

Bhutan is truly a hidden gem and perfectly in sync with India’s rapidly evolving new age customers. The beautiful country is a harmonious blend of unique history, culture, breath-taking natural beauty, architecture, adventure, gastronomy and more.”

Mr. Daniel D’souza President & Country Head - Holidays, SOTC Travel Limited said, “2024 marks the 75th anniversary of SOTC, and our announcement of charter departures to Bhutan is a first mover to capitalise on the uptick in demand. Our newly launched charter departures to Bhutan with Bengaluru as the gateway, offers our travellers from South India the benefits of ease and convenience with direct and exclusive flights to the destination.

Based on customer feedback, we have included experiences that are different from our traditional products.

Gran Meliá conquers Milan with new luxury hotel opening: Palazzo Cordusio

Milan’s modern palace of open luxury: a new interpretation of hospitality at the intersection of Spanish warmth and Italian flair, in the historic Palazzo Generali

MILAN (Jan.2024) - Gran Meliá ushered in a new era with the opening of Palazzo Cordusio in December, a flagship property residing within an icon of nineteenth century design by architect Luca Beltrami. After undergoing an extensive renovation led by ASAH Architects in collaboration with Studio Piva, the building now stands as the epitome of timeless architectural elegance, showcasing a harmonious fusion of historical grandeur and contemporary design excellence.

Providing a getaway to Milan’s rich culture and iconic landmarks, the hotel is set to become the city’s new gourmet hotspot and social hub thanks to the partnership with the leading international company Sunset Hospitality Group, boasting globally inspired fine dining concepts and an unmatched central location.

As the second Gran Meliá hotel, and fourth luxury property in Italy, the opening of Palazzo Cordusio further strengthens Meliá Hotels International’s presence in the destination as a key player in the luxury hospitality segment.

Meliá Hotels International (MHI) is happy to announce Milan’s hottest new hotel opening, Palazzo Cordusio, A Gran Meliá hotel. Primely positioned in Piazza Cordusio, one of the city’s most iconic squares, the luxury hotel is housed within the historic Palazzo Venezia – jewel of the Assicurazioni Generali heritage and for over a century the company’s Milanese headquarters – and marks Gran Meliá’s Milanese debut, joining its Italian sister property in Rome, Villa Agrippina.

Timeless Design

Originally constructed between 1897 and 1901 by Generali, Palazzo Venezia’s eclectic design sought inspiration from the architect Luca Beltrami and played a pivotal role in the restoration of the area between the late 19th and early 20th century. The reopening under the aegis of Meliá Hotels International (MHI) will be the driving force behind today’s redevelopment of Piazza Cordusio, which promises to hand back one of the city’s key cultural hubs to the Milanese people, symbolically connecting the Duomo with the Sforzesco Castle, whilst inviting international travellers to discover its storied past.

Following the transformation of the building’s internal spaces, 84 rooms and suites have been created, each of which preserves protected elements, whilst elevating the areas for their new intended use. The luxury accommodations are characterised by imposing windows and in some cases private balconies which provide abundant natural lighting and unique views of Piazza Cordusio, via Orefici, via dei Mercanti and the Duomo.

Studio ASAH by Alvaro and Adriana Sans, MHI's long-standing partner, was entrusted with the general architecture project and the interior design, favouring a sophisticated and contemporary flair to provide the perfect base for a truly memorable stay in the heart of Milan. ASAH's approach unfolded in the conceptual design, ingeniously liberating the ground floor for retail spaces while maintaining the hotel's secluded elegance within. Elevating the guest experience, the noble floors adorned the upper levels, ensuring a harmonious blend of profitability and privacy. Additionally, the architectural project places the reception under the building's majestic dome, decorated with an enlarged reproduction of the Providence mural on the façade, creating a timeless ambiance upon arrival.

In terms of interior design, every room and suite, along with select corridors, is adorned with luxurious Rubelli fabrics, paying homage to Generali's Venetian heritage. The plush interiors boast iconic furnishings from Italy's prestigious brands, including Molteni, Cassina, Fornasetti, Flos, Oluce, and Foscarini, enhancing the hotel's aesthetic appeal with a touch of elegance and cultural resonance.

The rehabilitation project of the building was managed by Generali Real Estate and MHI with the support of Studio Marco Piva, who handled the design and the artistic direction of the external facades and of all portions subject to monumental restrictions, the interior architecture and courtyard. In an effort to consciously conserve as much of the building as possible, the grand staircase became the protagonist, and its marble walls and floors maintained and restored to their former splendour, as were the original portal with the Generali Assicurazioni heading and the mosaic lunette with the Providence allegory. These are precious evidence of the previous function of the building, whose aesthetics have been reported on all the portals of the historical scale and in those created from scratch to maintain stylistic coherence throughout the hotel. The renovated building is now part of Generali's European real estate portfolio.

Delectable Fine Dining

Renowned for creating unique experiences worldwide, Sunset Hospitality Group has grown to become a leading lifestyle hospitality, currently operating across sixteen countries and will oversee the hotels culinary offerings to bring guests together through food.

The Group will introduce four exceptional home-grown concepts to the hotel’s dining scene with the debut of Gioia Pasticceria, Giardino Cordusio, Isola Restaurant, and SACHI:

●       Gioia: located on the ground floor with views overlooking the Square, Gioia Pasticceria is created in collaboration with master baker Fabio Bertoni to offer the experience of an authentic Pasticceria;

●       Giardino Cordusio: the Italian cocktail bar located in the internal courtyard of the hotel is a joint project with Giancarlo Mancino, award-winning consulting barman and official partner of The World's 50 Best Bars. The concept will offer exceptional cocktail creations featuring two stand-out elements created by Giancarlo: an impressively designed Martini “Altare” where a wide range of the signature Martini cocktails will be prepared, as well as the Negroni Alfresco, that will be sorted for at least 30 days in a 30 litre amphora.

●       Isola: led by Brand Chef Francesco Bagnato, Isola will bring a unique dining experience to Milan offering Italian favourites inspired by the Southern islands of Italy, along with an extensive selection of wines. The restaurant boasts a spacious terrace overlooking Palazzo della Ragione and Piazza Mercanti. The brand was recently recognized in the Michelin Guide and has established global presence in key destinations including Dubai, Bodrum, Marbella, and Morocco;

●       Sachi: already well established in London, SACHI is set to take centre stage on the Milanese dining scene under the guidance of acclaimed Chef Moon Kyung Soo, whose impressive career includes leading award-winning concepts such as SUSHISAMBA Dubai and Attiko. The Japanese restaurant will offer an Omakase counter, a large dining area, and an expansive garden space overlooking the Duomo. SACHI promises to take guests on a captivating journey through Japan’s diverse and exquisite flavors, emphasising local and seasonal ingredients all year round.

Guests can also access an intimate wellness area with an indoor swimming pool, sauna, Turkish bath, and relaxation lounge; alongside a state-of-the-art gym complete with Technogym equipment and a full-width view of the Palazzo della Ragione and Piazza Mercanti.

The arrival of the first Gran Meliá branded hotel in Milan, and second in Italy after the success of Villa Agrippina in Rome, represents an important milestone for MHI. The opening further solidifies the country’s importance in the group’s luxury development pipeline, which includes the addition of a fifth hotel in Milan by 2024, as part of The Meliá Collection

Employee Learning And Development: The Secret Sauce Of Success In The Hotel Industry by Saurabh Pande, Master Trainer & Facilitator

In the ever-evolving world of the hotel industry, the secret recipe for an organization's success is deeply anchored in the talents and skills of its workforce. Yet, this secret recipe may lose its magic when the importance of comprehensive employee Learning and Development is overlooked by key executives and supervisors. Often underestimated, this element of professional development is a game-changer in the industry. The Association for Talent Development's 2023 study brings to light a startling revelation, indicating that hotel establishments offering comprehensive Learning and Development programs enjoy an overwhelming 218% higher income per employee than those that do not.

However, on the other side of this encouraging statistic is a concerning insight from a Gallup survey: 70% of employees do not feel they have mastered the skills required for their roles. This stark contrast between the potential and reality of employee Learning and Development in the hotel industry paints a vivid picture. In this thought-provoking article, we focus particularly on India's hotel industry to delve deep into the heart of this issue. We aim to explore the intricate challenges arising from inadequate Learning and Development and examine the sweeping impact such shortcomings can have on team performance.

1. The Keystone of Success: Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) act as the cornerstone of success in the hotel industry. They provide a methodical approach for efficient and uniform operations. SOPs ensure clarity, reduce errors, and promote teamwork, thereby forming a robust foundation for achieving organizational goals. However, a lack of clear SOPs can lead to confusion and inaccuracies, which can negatively impact the service quality in hotels. An effective SOP provides employees with a reference to the most common and vital tasks, procedures, and practices within the hotel. It is an invaluable tool for the Learning and Development of new employees and reinforcing protocols among existing staff.

2. The Downward Spiral: Inadequate Learning & Development

Inadequate Learning and Development can trigger a 'domino effect', where one event sets off a series of subsequent unfavorable incidents, leading to a decline in team performance. This is especially true in the hotel industry where high standards of service are expected. The remedy is clear - hospitality establishments must invest in comprehensive, high-quality Learning and Development to bridge the skills gap and boost productivity. Effective Learning and Development equips employees with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles efficiently and deliver high-quality service to guests.

3. The Silent Adversaries: Complacency and Miscommunication

Complacency and miscommunication, if not addressed, can subtly undermine team performance in the hotel industry. Complacency can set in when employees feel their growth and learning have stagnated, while miscommunication can lead to errors and coordination problems. To counter these issues, it's essential to provide growth opportunities and maintain transparent communication channels to keep employees engaged and motivated. Regular Learning and Development programs and workshops can help employees upgrade their skills and stay updated with industry trends.

4. The Crucial Intersection: Impact on Team Performance

Inadequate Learning and Development harms team performance, resulting in decreased efficiency, complacency, and miscommunication. This is particularly significant in the hotel industry where team performance directly impacts guest satisfaction. Therefore, organizations must invest in comprehensive Learning and Development to foster growth, engagement, and effective communication within teams. A well-trained team can significantly enhance guest satisfaction, leading to repeat business and positive word-of-mouth advertising for the hotel.

In concluding our exploration, it is abundantly clear that addressing the often-hidden consequences of inadequate employee Learning and Development is not just important, but critical for the long-term success of any hotel establishment. The key to unlocking a multitude of benefits is acknowledging these challenges and making a firm commitment to invest in comprehensive Learning and Development solutions. These investments can bolster efficiency, improve quality assurance, reinforce safety protocols, and yield significant returns on investment. By nurturing a culture of continuous professional growth, hotel establishments can help unlock their workforce's full potential. However, the benefits of employee Learning & Development and development extend beyond the employees and the organization. This proactive approach greatly enhances the experience and satisfaction of the guests, contributing to the overall success of the hospitality industry. In essence, by investing in our employees, we are investing in the very heart of our establishments, setting the stage for a journey toward unparalleled success in the exciting world of hospitality.

BANGKOK – January , 2024 – When the Diriyah Company announced a unique giga-project with distinctive cultural, historical, and tourism landmarks, it invited international partners to come together and construct a new legacy for Saudi Arabia. Six Senses will help bring this to life through a new hotel in Wadi Safar, which lies just west of Diriyah and northwest of Riyadh.

“As the Kingdom evolves and opens to tourism, it is garnering strong interest among international visitors to explore its heritage sites and outstanding natural beauty,” said Chief Executive Officer of Six Senses Neil Jacobs. “We are excited to be working closely with Diriyah Company as we align visions and invite guests to explore the Kingdom.”

New Global Landmark for the Kingdom

Just 41 kilometers from Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport and 15 minutes northwest of the city, Six Senses Wadi Safar will feature 80 guest rooms spread across five clusters on top of a hill with panoramic views over the dramatic valley. True to the region’s deep cultural roots and original Najdi-style palatial architecture, the resort will pair the vibe of a traditional gathering place with the ultimate in luxurious and contemporary living.

This latest Six Senses project forms part of a 23-square-mile (60-square-kilometer) gated Wadi Safar community, a secluded, discreet, and peerless lifestyle destination for Saudi society and international visitors. Alongside the royal residences, the exclusive resort, recreation, and leisure assets will be set against a vast and breathtaking landscape of natural beauty. Plans are afoot to host flagship international sporting, arts, cultural, retail, and fashion events alongside social enterprise to support Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. This bold blueprint is intended to harness the potential of its younger generations, open to tourism, and turn the nation’s greatest strengths into a vibrant society and diverse and sustainable economy.

Six Senses Spa will be a sensory experience with dedicated suites for sight and touch, treatment rooms, a hammam, a salon, a gym and studio, and a separate yoga studio. From yoga programs, signature massages, and biohacking tools to multi-day retreats and brand standards such as Sleep With Six Senses and Eat With Six Senses, there will be something for everyone.

The region’s history goes back thousands of years: it was once an ancient trade and pilgrimage route and a meeting spot for people traveling to or from Asia, Africa, or Europe, sharing food and stories around the night fire. While the guest rooms are secluded, the restaurants incorporate this community aspect and extend traditional hospitality, inviting guests to gather and enjoy seasonal sharing plates themed to the location. The main restaurant will open out to the pool and will be complemented by a signature restaurant, grill, and brew bar. There will be a multi-use events space with an outdoor amphitheater and a boutique in the style of an artisan souk.

With families in mind, a full Grow With Six Senses activity program will be available with a local twist. By day, expect to roll up the sleeves for mud brick making, traditional Najdi design workshops, Sadu weaving, and pottery, and by night, the stars come alive in the sky and on the screen of the outdoor Cinema Paradiso. India's Bloom Hotels sees about a 60% boost in revenue with Axis Rooms

Bangalore, January 2024: Axis Rooms, a leading hotel distribution technology provider, said India's Bloom Hotels has registered about a 60% spike in its revenue in 2023 vs 2022. The revenue growth is attributed to about 50% more online (OTA) sales via Axis Rooms Channel Manager solution's real-time distribution and Revenue Management system's intelligent pricing capabilities.

With 47 properties spread across the width and breadth of India, Bloom Hotels has been providing exceptional service to its guests in line with its philosophy - a great room in the best location at a surprisingly affordable rate. It caters to both leisure and business travellers.

Without a Channel Manager, the Bloom Hotels management had difficulty updating rates and availability on OTAs, leading to inconsistency. Additionally, selling more rooms at the best rates to increase occupancy and revenue was a significant challenge as they didn't have a Revenue Management System.

Speaking about their decision to adopt AxisRooms in 2017, Hemant Verma, Group Revenue Manager, Bloom Hotels, said, "Our objective was to drive online sales, primarily via OTAs. After a few rounds of careful deliberations, we found that AxisRooms Channel Manager fit all our requirements. The speed/efficiency of their Channel Manager tool and intuitiveness of their Revenue Management system were key factors in adopting them."

Expressing his views about the business benefits witnessed with AxisRooms, Hemant further said, "It is great to see that our room sales and revenue have gone up by 50% and 60%, respectively, in 2023 compared to 2022, thanks to the AxisRooms Channel Manager and Revenue Management System. This has undoubtedly been our best business investment so far."

"We are thrilled to see that Bloom Hotels are experiencing exceptional business benefits from our solutions," said Ravi Taneja, Chief Operating Officer at AxisRooms. "The increase in their sales and revenue is proof of our dedication to assisting hotels with high-quality solutions that result in unmatched growth."

Ingredient Ideology | Top 10 Meatless Protein Foods to Include in Our Diets By: Dr. Kaviraj Khialani

Top 10 Meatless Protein Foods to Include in Our Diets

Introduction to Proteins:

Proteins, essential to life's fundamental processes, are intricate molecules composed of amino acids, the building blocks of their structure. These amino acids arrange themselves in a specific sequence, determining the protein's primary structure, which then folds into secondary, tertiary, and, in some cases, quaternary structures. This intricate architecture underscores proteins' versatility, allowing them to fulfil a myriad of critical functions within living organisms. Enzymes, as catalysts, facilitate biochemical reactions, while structural proteins provide support for cells and tissues. Transport proteins move molecules across membranes, and hormones regulate physiological processes. Antibodies play a vital role in the immune system, contractile proteins enable muscle movement, and storage proteins store essential molecules. The synthesis of proteins occurs through transcription and translation, with DNA encoding information transcribed into mRNA, which then guides the assembly of amino acids into a functional protein. In essence, proteins are the molecular workhorses that orchestrate and execute the biological symphony of life. Understanding their structures and functions is paramount for unravelling the intricacies of health, diseases, and potential therapeutic interventions.

How do Proteins help us in our body maintenance:

Proteins are vital for body maintenance through various essential functions. They contribute to tissue structure and repair, act as enzymes to facilitate metabolic processes, play a key role in immune function by producing antibodies, transport crucial molecules like oxygen and regulate physiological processes through hormones. Proteins are essential for muscle contraction, contribute to storage and release of important molecules, and help maintain pH balance and fluid distribution in the body. Their multifaceted roles make proteins indispensable for overall health and the proper functioning of cells and tissues.

What are the different types of Dietary Proteins available:

Dietary proteins can be sourced from various plant and plant-based alternatives, offering a range of nutritional benefits:

  1. Legumes: Beans, lentils, and peas are rich in protein, fibre, and essential nutrients.

  2. Nuts and Seeds: Almonds, peanuts, chia seeds, and sunflower seeds provide protein along with healthy fats.

  3. Soy Products: Tofu, tempeh, and edamame are complete plant proteins, offering all essential amino acids.

  4. Whole Grains: Quinoa, barley, and bulgur contain moderate amounts of protein along with fibre and other nutrients.

  5. Plant-Based Alternatives: Products like plant-based burgers and sausages offer protein for those following vegetarian or vegan diets.

Including a variety of these plant-based proteins ensures a well-balanced and nutritious diet.

How do meatless protein options help in better well-being:

Meatless protein options offer several benefits that contribute to better well-being:

  1. Heart Health: Plant-based proteins are often lower in saturated fats and cholesterol compared to some animal-based proteins. This can contribute to better heart health by reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

  2. Weight Management: Many meatless protein sources, such as legumes, nuts, and seeds, are rich in fibre. Fiber promotes a feeling of fullness, helping with weight management by reducing overall calorie intake.

  3. Digestive Health: Plant-based proteins often come with dietary fibre, which supports digestive health. Fiber helps prevent constipation, promotes regular bowel movements, and fosters a healthy gut microbiome.

  4. Nutrient Density: Meatless protein sources are often rich in various vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. These nutrients contribute to overall health, supporting functions such as immune system activity and cell repair.

  5. Lower Risk of Chronic Diseases: Diets rich in plant-based proteins have been associated with a lower risk of certain chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. Antioxidants found in plant-based foods may play a role in these protective effects.

  6. Environmental Sustainability: Choosing meatless protein options is often more environmentally sustainable. Plant-based diets generally have a lower environmental impact in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, land use, and water consumption compared to animal-based diets.

  7. Ethical Considerations: Opting for meatless protein aligns with ethical considerations for those concerned about animal welfare and the environmental impact of animal agriculture.

  8. Diverse Nutrient Profiles: Plant-based proteins offer a diverse range of nutrients, allowing individuals to obtain a variety of essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals from different sources.

It's important to note that a well-balanced and varied diet is key to reaping the benefits of meatless protein options. Combining different plant-based protein sources ensures the intake of a complete range of essential amino acids and nutrients necessary for optimal health and well-being.
