Hyatt Announces New Americas Organizational Structure and Senior Leadership Appointments

As a result of strong growth in the Americas region, Hyatt today announced new senior leadership appointments in the Americas region and subregional structure designed to further support Hyatt’s continued focus on growth, operational excellence and performance optimization within its largest region. With this new organizational structure, Hyatt’s Americas region is now comprised of two subregions: U.S. & Canada and Latin America & the Caribbean (LAC), led by two newly appointed subregional presidents, respectively: Susan Santiago and Gabriel Felip who both report to Pete Sears, Group President, Americas, effective January 2024.

In her new role as President, U.S. & Canada, Santiago is responsible for the growth and performance optimization of Hyatt’s owned and managed portfolio. She is in her 32nd year with Hyatt and has held numerous positions leading operational performance, most recently as Senior Vice President of Hyatt’s Lifestyle Division and Miraval brand.

As President, Latin America & Caribbean, Felip leads operational performance for all managed and owned Hyatt hotels in the region across all brands, including Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection. Felip is an industry veteran with more than 30 years of hospitality and tourism experience and previously served as Hyatt’s Group President of Inclusive Collection Global Operations.

"Our new Americas structure enables us to further support our hotel teams and owners in more customized, regionalized ways – and this is designed to help us continue driving strong results through intentional and sustainable growth for the region,” said Sears. “With these changes, we continue our momentum in positioning Hyatt as the preferred hospitality brand, delivering meaningful and memorable experiences for guests and driving results for our owners."

Included in the Americas’ new subregional structure are three newly created roles within the operations, commercial services and finance functions, respectively: Yvette Martinez-Edwards has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Field Operations, Luxury & Miraval, reporting to Santiago, Shyla Gardner re-joins Hyatt as Vice President, Commercial Services, Latin America & the Caribbean, reporting to Asad Ahmed, Senior Vice President, Commercial Services, Americas, and Juan Pablo Puerta now serves as Senior Vice President, Finance, Latin America & the Caribbean, reporting to Liz Bauer, Senior Vice President, Finance, Americas.

With a dedicated focus on driving operational excellence within Hyatt’s luxury brands, Martinez-Edwards oversees Hyatt’s managed luxury and Miraval hotel portfolio for the Americas region. Most recently, Martinez-Edwards served as Vice President of Field Operations where she led a group of full-service Timeless Collection properties in the East region. She also previously led Hyatt’s sales strategy in Latin America & the Caribbean, and for the Miraval brand.

Gardner leads a cross-functional LAC Commercial Services team that provides a specialized commercial strategy for the LAC market and further develops strong brand stories that embrace Hyatt’s culture and key differentiators for Hyatt’s full LAC portfolio, including the Inclusive Collection. Prior to this role, Gardner acted as Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Playa Resorts and previously served as an Area Director of Sales and Marketing in Mexico for Hyatt.

To further support Hyatt’s intentional long-term growth strategy, Puerta is responsible for leading the finance function and driving property performance optimization throughout Latin America & the Caribbean. Puerta also continues to lead the function for Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection in the region. Prior to this role, Puerta served as the CFO of Apple Leisure Group.

Koumendakos, a graduate of the renowned hospitality management Hotelschool The Hague in the Netherlands, officially took the helm at Metropole Hanoi on Sept. 25.

His arrival coincides with major milestones at the hotel, including the upcoming reopening of the historic Metropole Wing in December following an extensive refurbishment that will usher in six new Metropole Suites (while the overall number of rooms will remain the same). Metropole Hanoi also recently relaunched its celebrated Vietnamese restaurant Spice Garden with a new concept, design and menu.

In February, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was awarded a prestigious Five-Star rating—the top level of recognition—from Forbes Travel Guide for a fourth consecutive year. Metropole Hanoi is one of only two hotels in Vietnam to earn the Five-Star rating—and the only in Hanoi to receive the top distinction. In June, the industry-leading travel magazine Travel + Leisure named Metropole Hanoi one of the top city hotels in Vietnam in its annual Luxury Awards Asia Pacific. Mr. Allam's journey in the industry began at Le Meridien Jeddah in 2002, where he started at the Front Desk and swiftly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming Assistant Director of Sales in 2009, thanks to his exceptional commercial acumen.

In 2011, Mr. Allam joined the Rosewood Jeddah, where he played a pivotal role in elevating the property into one of Jeddah's foremost luxury destinations. He started as the Director of Sales & Marketing, consistently demonstrating exceptional leadership. This culminated in his appointment as General Manager in 2018, where he continued to excel. His remarkable achievements led to a regional role as Managing Director in 2021, overseeing new development deals across the Kingdom.

A graduate of Prince Sultan College in Jeddah with a degree in Hotels & Tourism Management, Mr. Allam's extensive experience and track record of success make him a valuable addition to The Ritz-Carlton Riyadh, further solidifying its position as a leading luxury destination in Saudi Arabia.

 Fortune Hotels, a member of the ITC hotel group, announced the appointment of its − Chaitra Dwivedi who has recently taken over as General Manager of Fortune Resort Benaulim Goa.  

Chaitra provides a wealth of expertise and experience to her new position, as she has over 16 years of experience in the hotel industry and a 20-year career in the hospitality sector. Her career includes pre-opening exposure to four properties and valuable tenure with esteemed brands such as Lemon Tree Hotel, The Grand Imperial, Pride, Golden Tulip, Clarks, and Jaypee demonstrating versatility across luxury, budget, mid-scale, heritage, corporate, and resort properties.   

She began her journey in the hospitality world through the sales and marketing department, demonstrating her prowess in building and nurturing key relationships. Over the years, she has successfully transitioned through various roles, including front office and revenue management, before ultimately overseeing the overall operations of hotels over the course of her career.  

Ms. Dwivedi's educational background includes a science degree with a focus on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, reflecting her dedication to both precision and creativity in her work. She is also a passionate pet lover. Her diverse range of hobbies includes parasailing, biking, adventure sports, and music. In addition, Chaitra holds a black belt in Taekwondo and proudly participated in the Republic Day Parade on Rajpath as an NCC Cadet, reflecting her discipline and commitment. 

In acknowledgement of her outstanding contributions to the hospitality industry, Chaitra was honoured with the "Outstanding Contributions to the Hospitality Industry" award in 2021 and "Goa's Best General Manager" award in 2022 by Best of India Biz Awards. In the wake of a remarkable year for the one Michelin-star restaurant, the two notable talents are set to elevate the award-winning dining experience even further as it enters a new era of excellence. Julien, with over two decades of experience in prestigious fine-dining restaurants around the world, now oversees Ossiano. He leads a high-performing team, and enhances service and operational performance, all while sharing his passion for exceptional guest experiences.

Before joining Ossiano, Julien held various leadership positions. Most recently, he served as the General Manager at Andō in Hong Kong, guiding the restaurant to Michelin-star status, securing a coveted spot on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list in 2023 as well as a diamond on Black Pearl restaurant Guide. Prior to this, Julien led The Tasting Room in Macau, a distinguished two-Michelin-star restaurant in City Of Dreams. His earlier experience includes serving as a Restaurant Manager at the acclaimed three-Michelin-star Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, London. Before joining Alain Ducasse, Julien spent eight incredible years at three Michelin-starred restaurant, The Fat Duck by Heston Blumenthal in the UK, serving in various roles.

Thomas Domingues, Head Sommelier

Another notable addition to Ossiano is Thomas Domingues, who has joined the team as the Head Sommelier. With a unique approach to wine, he emphasises storytelling as the essence of his philosophy. Hailing from the scenic south coast of Portugal, Thomas’s French heritage has provided his palate with a deep appreciation for exquisite flavours and refined techniques. He has worked in Michelin-star restaurants, including AOC in Denmark, Loco in Portugal, and Belcanto by José Avillez in Portugal which is no.25 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. With four years of experience at Vila Joya Hotel & Spa in the Algarve which was ranked at no.37 in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, Thomas has learnt the art of crafting a sensory experience for guests by weaving stories through every wine pairing, leaving an indelible mark on diners.

2023, to date, has been an extraordinary year for Ossiano. As well as a debut ranking of 87th best restaurant in the world in The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2023, Ossiano also ranked 4th and highest new entry in the 2023 Middle East and Africa's 50 Best Restaurants list. In June 2023, Ossiano also retained its Michelin star in Dubai's 2023 Michelin guide, and in April 2023, Ossiano was awarded the most highly rated restaurant at the world-leading restaurant guide Gault&Millau, where it took a four-toque status, as well as Restaurant of the Year.

Sh. M.R. Synrem, IAS officer of 2002 Batch, Assam-Meghalaya Cadre has joined as the Managing Director of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) in addition to his existing role as Joint Secretary and Additional Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
